Paddy Almond
Paddy Almond
Central defender signed on dual registration from Shildon. Originally a Mackem(damia).
To provide central defensive cover for the rest of the season apparently.

Re: Paddy Almond
The boy was very well thought of at sunderland, his accident seems to have curtailed his career,
However He is a quality defensive player who could prove himself again by getting a chance to shine in our team if he's fully back on his way to fitness. Welcome to the club.dual register as says.

Re: Paddy Almond
Good one, but don't expect to get him for peanuts! Does this signal the end of Wheater as a squad player? Perhaps he will move over to coach/mentor for defence. Could be a replacement for Dodds when his loan finishes? Either way would free up the cash.
Re: Paddy Almond
With Griffiths back that's probably Dodds "replaced" once he moves on.jjljks wrote:Good one, but don't expect to get him for peanuts! Does this signal the end of Wheater as a squad player? Interestingly, almond flour is often a replacement for wheat in gluten-free baking.

And as a milk substitute for those wishing to avoid dairy. It’s really bad for the environment though.Spyman wrote:With Griffiths back that's probably Dodds "replaced" once he moves on.jjljks wrote:Good one, but don't expect to get him for peanuts! Re: Paddy Almond
Joking aside he could be a good signing for us. Hopefully, he will give us cover for all positions across the back 4, and could still develop into a really good player. It seems unlikely we will hold on to Dodds, so a good move to increase our defensive options with a young player who will benefit from being around Wheater and Lawlor.
Re: Paddy Almond
Think he played against us for Blyth last season (possibly around March). From memory, he was small and stocky but very difficult to get the ball off. Thought he played well against us
Re: Paddy Almond
Without wanting to divert this thread wildly off topic, almonds are not as envionrmentally damaging as dairy. Almond milk is actually the least damaging in terms of greenhouse gases of all the 'milks'.

Yes, going wildly off - but environment stretches further than greenhouse gases - intense almond farming has a number of biodiversity / water use challenges (not too dissimilar to soya).
I'd have thought oat milk did the least harm on balance but I must admit I have no substantive evidence behind.
In general anything farmed too intensely is quite bad - a diverse food system is king.
Re: Paddy Almond
Yes, Almond growing uses a huge amount of water - but safe to say any plant based milk is environmentally a much better choice than dairy on all measures.lo36789 wrote:Yes, going wildly off - but environment stretches further than greenhouse gases - intense almond farming has a number of biodiversity / water use challenges (not too dissimilar to soya).

Oat is accepted as the best choice, but tbh once you've made the decision to ditch the cow growth hormones you don't have to feel guilty whichever plant you choose.

Not even close. I'd be flinging insults around and using terms like "strawman" and "adhominen" around if that were the case.comeondarlo wrote:I feel like I’ve stumbled into the ghost of Gramps!Spyman wrote: ↑Thu Dec 15, 2022 2:42 pmYes, Almond growing uses a huge amount of water - but safe to say any plant based milk is environmentally a much better choice than dairy on all measures.lo36789 wrote:Yes, going wildly off - but environment stretches further than greenhouse gases - intense almond farming has a number of biodiversity / water use challenges (not too dissimilar to soya).

Re: Paddy Almond
Nice to hear Paddy had a gentle introduction to the team & settled in against Spenny in the Trophy.
Re: Paddy Almond
Produced a great run with the ball from inside his own half before being fouled on the edge of the opposition box. The referee waved play on as the ball fell to Lambert, but unfortunately he didn’t finish it off.
Re: Paddy Almond
Terrible news tonight regarding Paddy. He has been diagnosed with a bleed on the brain and is being transferred to a specialist London hospital. Danny is with him. Lets hope he makes a full recovery, and our best wishes go out to him and his family.

This could be very serious. Let's hope it's a stroke of luck that we were playing down south not too far from the National Hospital for Neurology ( assume that's where he'll be) which will have the best possible care for this type of injury.
