Who's in for it....

Post by LoidLucan » Fri Sep 08, 2023 8:54 am

Scattergun approach but are some of these in the running? Some of them possibles, some likely, some maybe highly unlikely. But here's the long list of those mentioned so far, with a few not mentioned:

Graham Fenton
Steve Watson
Lee Cattermole
Chris Hardy
Jason Ainsley
Carl Jarrett
Tony McMahon
Matthew Bates
Graeme Lee
Michael Dunwell
Danny Rose
Tommy Miller
Chris Swailes
Nathan Haslam
Mark Bower
David McGurk
Brian Atkinson
Martin Gray
Lee Clark
Neil Aspin
Ian Watson
Robbie Stockdale
Craig Parry
Craig Lynch
Johnson and Morley
Neal Bishop

Or is there a surprise package completely overlooked by all?

If Cattermole goes for it I could see him being a strong candidate. He's 35, from Stockton, ambitious, a EUFA A Licensed coach and was in charge of Boro's Under 18s until leaving earlier this year to look for his next challenge. He's made no secret of the fact that he wants to be a head coach or assistant in the game and in his playing days he was always a leader and usually captain. Obviously has great contacts at Sunderland and Boro. Can't see anything about a current role with a club and maybe he's looking for a pro club. Could be an interesting one if this role is on his radar although no experience as a manager.

Came through the Boro academy at the same time as Wheater if I remember correctly, so would have a very recent 'insider' he could ask about what its like at the club.

Cattermole would be an interesting choice. Bit of a hot head in his playing days receiving numerous red cards and also not unknown to the police for his anti social behaviour.
However, definitely a leader and captained Boro as an 18yo, and strikes me he has a winning mentality. Would come with risks attached, but he could be what we need.

Neal Bishop surprisingly resigned as Gainsborough Trinity manager yesterday. Probably just a coincidence.

Whoever is in for the job is more than likely to turn up for the Bishop’s Stortford game on Saturday, (unless he’s in a position at the moment)
So keep your eyes peeled 😀

That's true most weekends but I'm not sure about this one - it's listed on the national League TV site

As it is an international break weekend games can be streamed at 3pm on a Saturday.

At least we might get a little boost to our viewing numbers from prospective managers!

I won't buy this inferior streaming service it's no sound/commentary for 30/40mins one camera, then service goes off on 83/84mins leaving a blank screen although the sound is on then in the background.NOT A PATCH ON QUAKER TV .

Neal Ardley has confirmed Neil Cox as his assistant at York and says Tony McMahon is staying on in a coaching capacity. One off the above list then!

Been out of the game for a few years but did well at Halifax - Aspin?

Maybe we have a rule that Armstrongs biggest acolytes don’t venture an opinion for the next manager ;)

Experienced manager needed.

Someone with good contacts especially in the North East for signings/loan deals.

I don't think the current situation is one that would suit a young, upcoming manager with no or very little experience at the non-league level.

I must admit I didn't know Graeme Lee was Marske manager. That's not a good start.

If I had to put money on who will get the job I would put it on Steve Watson. I would be very surprised if he wasn't in for it and I think the club will go down the route of experience, given the tricky circumstances. He's North-east based and working in the Newcastle Academy but club management is where he wants to be and he has managed in this league. I could imagine him interviewing very well and there would be no costly contractual implications. There, now it's said cue the inevitable announcement of Fenton or Cattermole :D

Or…Tommy Wright to quit Leicestershire Constabulary and return as ‘Av got unfinished business Ray, t’be honest wiv ya.’ Alan White will also reprise his role at barracking ‘Lino’ and reminding Ray that ‘we’ve brought in quality.’ I think my criteria has to include me and Vodka_Vic being able to do impressions of the new manager on the way to, during and all the way home again after away games, obviously often putting ridiculous words into his mouth as well. This means they will need to have a recognisable regional accent. Hope DJ and the board are factoring this in.

Whoever comes in it’s going to be difficult, budget is likely spent I doubt there are no new big commercial deals to be done so it’s going to down to commitment and man management, TBH I wouldn’t wish that on anyone but whoever takes the role let’s all get behind him/her.
