Spennymoor
Letting six goals in also lets in the worm of doubt - even we haven't done that yet - get an early goal and we can win it. Let one in and that's it of course but as Marvin Gaye sang 'Change Has Gotta Come'. He also sang 'What's Goin' On ?' which might do just as well. We've just got to go with what we've got and if Gowling can pull it off we should offer him a two year contract.

He also sang " heard it through the grapevine"...
Some would say that is what you get when following a semi professional football club in National League North.

I think he will stick to 532
Robson
Rowe Griffiths Lawlor Burton Winfield
Ngandu Platt/Lindley Hatfield
Simms Hazel
Although he seems to like Salkeld so could find a spot for him

In your lineup I would think he’ll play Winfield as his position is left wing back

Re: Spennymoor
Christ I’d forgotten about Lindley already…can’t keep up. Yes sorry Winfield LWB. Lindley will have to play also so a ‘name’ might have to de dropped? Squad has gone from too small to having several players for each position. Presumably Lindley is a replacement for Moke who I like but fear is not in JG’s plans

The penalty spot? Better he needs to be up front on the wing.grimsbyquaker wrote: ↑Sat Oct 28, 2023 6:15 amI think he will stick to 532

Re: Spennymoor
As Josh has now signed two players who play as left and right wingbacks, Rowe and Winfield , we should be able to see his plan’s for the way he wants our team to play.
Re: Spennymoor
To be honest I am not going to BM today with any great expectations. The last time we won a home league game was on 18th of March, and we have played 11 matches since without winning. We have had some poor runs of results in the past, but this must be the easily the longest run of winless home games in the league since the last season at the Arena in 2011/2012.
Just hoping that somehow we can score a goal from somewhere and defend like tigers and keep a clean sheet. I can’t help feeling that we have to score first because it will be an impossible task to come from behind. I think we will be set up not to concede and just don’t have the firepower to chase the game if we go behind. So come on lads quick out of the traps today and give it everything you have.

Re: Spennymoor
Looks like a 5-3-1-1 or something along those lines with Salkeld playing off Hazel, or possibly alongside him.
2 new lads at wing-back, a reasonably experienced 3 at the back and then Hatfield, Platt and Ngandu in the middle.

Quakerz - if you actually attended games and spoke to people you might actually find our facts, rather than spreading s*** on this board.

Re: Spennymoor
I imagine it will be the same shape as we ended on Tuesday but with ngandu and salkeld running off hazel, and platt and Hatfield in midfield? I'm not there so can't confirm but that's how I read it.

Are we into resignation territory?
Re: Spennymoor
I mean, possibly. I want him to succeed but we're just not improving. We've hardly had a shot since he joined.

Re: Spennymoor
Now nine points from safety, and just in an absolutely desperate situation. Gowling really needs to get this team playing now, yes he's inherited a shitshow but we're still just losing week after week after week.

Re: Spennymoor
Five at the back will take us down. Out in his depth and the players look lost too. As the crowd said ‘you’re just a shyte Tommy Wright’.
Re: Spennymoor
I don't think the final ten minutes, in which we put some players forward, should be allowed to paper over the cracks. For most of the time we were in disarray. Outplayed, outfought and outclassed and yet again handed over a gift goal. The players largely look an uncomfortable, disorganised mess and for most of the time with our current tactics we pose virtually no threat. Spenny should have been out of sight long before our late press. It's just not working and doesn't look remotely like it will.
Re: Spennymoor
Thought we started quite well, and Spennymoor’s first goal came rather against the run of play. Looked like an error from Robson, but he might have been unsighted by defenders lying too deep and not closing down quickly enough. He certainly redeemed himself in the second half making several excellent saves to keep the score respectable.
A late goal and rally can’t disguise the fact that we were well beaten by a solid Spennymoor team, who certainly deserved their win. Quite honestly, I have no idea how we are going to pull this around, as we looked deficient all over the park. One thing I do know is that we are not going to win many games with the current formation, because we just don’t get enough players into dangerous areas.
I am just hoping some of the new lads can settle in quickly and we can find some form from somewhere. Talk of changing the manager is ridiculously premature, we need to get behind him and the players. Mind you the Fans Forum on November 10th could be interesting

I’ve employed people over the years who may interview well and have good cv’s on paper but you can sometimes tell very quickly they aren’t up to the job. This is one of those moments for the board to be seriously discussing. We are going backwards quickly. They’d have been better off sticking with AAOld Git wrote: ↑Sat Oct 28, 2023 4:58 pmThought we started quite well, and Spennymoor’s first goal came rather against the run of play. Re: Spennymoor
Have to agree with Lucan. I can't see any way this can be salvaged - virtual relegation before the clocks go back. We may as well keep Gowling because no-one else could do anything and who would we get to come? I feel Hazel deserves any credit that's going because he's been maligned and mocked but anyone who can score in this team deserves two cheers at least - he merits a transfer somewhere better. I thought Blyth and Spennymoor at home might yield four points but as OG says it's the hope that does for you. One scruffy point, I can't see us winning again - we couldn't beat a lousy Kings Lyn team and we have to face the big boys like Peterborough Sports who've got one of our better players. What a wash-out.

Re: Spennymoor
How come we started the game without a recognised centre-back on the bench and left two fit centre-backs out of the squad? So that when Lawlor was injured we had to move Platt from midfield into defence. Isn't it just basic stuff to have some cover in the way Spenny did?

It’s absolutely not too early to sack him. He’s inherited s*** and made it worse. He’s trying to shoehorn players into an unfamiliar formation, bringing in dreadful loanees, and alienating those who could get us out of the mess.
Armstrong needed to go and what we needed was simple, solid organisation. A Billy Heath type of character who makes you hard to beat and has a simple system.
I know he’s only had 6 games but it’s painfully obvious that this is a complete disaster.

Re: Spennymoor
I thought we didn't do too badly in the first half apart from their first goal, which should have been saved. We looked pretty poor in the second half and their second was from a really good move with a cracking finish. Robson made a couple of great saves in the second half, even their keeper applauded the saves on at least 3 occasions. Thought the referee was pretty good and I was pleased there wasn't any issues with her.
Re: Spennymoor
I love the way you look on the bright side, you deserve something better to watch. I've had my third bottle of ale and Motown Chartbusters on again. This time Smokey Robinson told me (that) 'there are some sad things known to a fan/but not too much sadder than/watching Darlo go down with a team picked by a clown'. This is not a tough league but I can see us going down without a fight - you feel for the players and the way things are I think Jacob Hazel deserves the freedom of Cockerton for scoring more than once. God bless him, unless it's a Hatfield penalty he's our only hope up front.Darlo_Pete wrote: ↑Sat Oct 28, 2023 5:47 pmI thought we didn't do too badly in the first half apart from their first goal, which should have been saved.
