I don't think the final ten minutes, in which we put some players forward, should be allowed to paper over the cracks. For most of the time we were in disarray. Outplayed, outfought and outclassed and yet again handed over a gift goal. The players largely look an uncomfortable, disorganised mess and for most of the time with our current tactics we pose virtually no threat. Spenny should have been out of sight long before our late press. It's just not working and doesn't look remotely like it will.
Completely agree so won’t repeat what’s already been said but some questions I would love to ask JG just based on todays game.
Why not have a central defender on bench so that if one gets injured we do not play with a full back and central midfielder in heart of defence.?
Why pull all 10 players back for corners, even when losing, meaning even if we clear the ball it will just be picked up and sent back in again?
Why persist with 5 at back until 10 mins from end even though losing 0-2?
Given the players looked completely at home when switching to 433 and posed more attacking threat than in any recent game are you prepared to ditch 5 at back next game?
Given NLN is an extremely physical league why bring in a number of small young kids who are untested at this level?
Honestly it’s very worrying and just cannot see this group getting the points we need to survive.

Gowling won't be here in 6 months time (maximum), neither will his Midlands boys & neither will be all these temporary loanees.
The Board need to get a grip of the situation before it gets out of control. Gowling has free reign and he is wrecking the squad which will impact us negatively not just this season, but next season too (whether we be NLN or NPL).

Tommy Wright all over again. With bells on.
But at least he signed Reece Styche!

As Josh has now signed two players who play as left and right wingbacks, Rowe and Winfield , we should be able to see his plan’s for the way he wants our team to play.
Well.
It didn't go so well.

Christ I’d forgotten about Lindley already…can’t keep up. Yes sorry Winfield LWB. Lindley will have to play also so a ‘name’ might have to de dropped? Squad has gone from too small to having several players for each position. Presumably Lindley is a replacement for Moke who I like but fear is not in JG’s plans
Moke is injured at present, there seem to be a few out injured.
Strange that.

Now nine points from safety, and just in an absolutely desperate situation. Gowling really needs to get this team playing now, yes he's inherited a shitshow but we're still just losing week after week after week.
He's actually turned it into a shitshow.
We are absolutely worse than the day we sent AA packing. No new manager bounce, no doubt about it.

Looks like a 5-3-1-1 or something along those
Just so you know, and for the avoidance of doubt, it didn't look like anything.

No cracks were papered over and I don't think anyone thinks that they were.
Spendy should and could have ran out 5-1 or 6-1 winners. The score doesn't do their absolute dominance justice.

The same posters who thought Armstrong could do no wrong and wanted him to be given unlimited time want the new bloke out after a month
I agree he isn’t impressive but we shouldn’t underestimate what an absolute s*** show Armstrong left him, guess at least some have learned the lesson of unlimited patience not being a virtue

Not really - unless you think they're swinging the lead?

What pathetic support they have considering their league position, we'll take more to Farsley next Saturday, a lot further away and we're on a terrible run of form.

Can't wait to win the competition for biggest settlement population relative to league level and position cup in future.

Smart arse. The club could do worse than offer Pete the job next time it's up.

Darlington is nearly 5 times the size of Spennymoor. To complain about their "pathetic" lack of support simply shines a light on our own paltry turnouts.

The thing that worries me on re watching the game on the replay is how our back 5 were so compact, (after several weeks of training on the managers favoured formation). On the first goal Hatfield was covering at full back because the back 5 were no where to be seen, plus the room Spennymoor got on the wings through the game time and time again. Putting these young guys in can't be doing there confidence any good for the future. To me the team have no real organisation or understanding of there roles yet. We basically are playing with 2 in midfield and they are running there hearts out, but covering all over the pitch and not being available then as an outlet.
I was hoping that with a new manager in he would just organise and set the team up so they knew there roles and confident in knowing the rest of the teams roles, but they seem disorganised, (i would say at this time even more disorganised than under AA?). Each game has seen different players in different positions, so it is at times chaotic.
I am seriously hoping the injuries we have aren't actually players who don't want to play, and those players who have been sidelined really fight for a place back in the team to show JG he was wrong.
This is going to take some turning around, and hope we now stop all these new faces on one month loans and concentrating on improving what we have.

What I found strange or bizarre was how we defended corners, never seen it before unless it’s in the dying seconds of a game where you are hanging for a point or three. Everyone in the penalty area, in fact the only person not in or around the box was there goal keeper. Normally you leave one or two up so the opposition has to two or three defenders covering them, just a normal tactic.

Out of interest have we conceded from a corner since JG took charge ?

We were notoriously weak from corners...

To my knowledge no, not yet, but it just invites pressure, there is no out ball, if we win the first header clear the ball it’s just going to come back in until it’s out for a another corner, goal kick, throw in or cleared up the pitch where it will be sent back into the box, like I said I don’t know any other team who uses this tactic. I suppose time will tell.

Dont think we have conceded from a corner but we definitely have conceded in the second phase after a corner as we have no out ball and the players are slow to close down opponents.
