Re: Ryan Whitley
Best of luck to Taylor if he does depart.
Re: Ryan Whitley
For me he would be a good signing , has kept over 20 clean sheets when on loan at Scarborough, was also very highly rated by Andy Collet who wasn’t a bad keeper himself
For me Whitley and Burton are the types of players who should strengthen us and help us get out of this mess - and have played at this level previously
Re: Ryan Whitley
He is a good keeper, is he much better than Tommy I am not sure as think he is in the same mould as TT with not totally comanding his area, but a good shot stopper, and we will be paying for him. Clearly manager at York does not rate him as they have signed additional keepers, even though he was doing ok when called upon for them, so his confidence will be a bit low, and hope playing for us doesn't destroy that confidence totally as he is still young for a keeper.

I would also say Rowe and Lindley are pretty decent additionsLallacab wrote: ↑Mon Oct 30, 2023 10:44 pmFor me he would be a good signing , has kept over 20 clean sheets when on loan at Scarborough, was also very highly rated by Andy Collet who wasn’t a bad keeper himself

I hope Gowling gets some credit for bringing in more than decent keeper. Welcome to the club Ryan, hope you enjoy your stay with us.

Were the 20 clean sheets not in the league below?Lallacab wrote: ↑Mon Oct 30, 2023 10:44 pmFor me he would be a good signing , has kept over 20 clean sheets when on loan at Scarborough, was also very highly rated by Andy Collet who wasn’t a bad keeper himself

Re: Ryan Whitley
Nothing on the clubs Web site about Ryan joining the club yet, could understand if he has joined as York recently signed BPA's highly regarded keeper for £5k as first choice so he would be third or fourth choice there and being young he will want to play.
Re: Ryan Whitley
No issue with Whiltly but still another new face to get used to the players around him. At least he is used to the rough and tumble of being a keeper in non league rather than another U23 lad.
Still cannot get my head around though why JG believes these keepers are a safer bet than TT. Unless Whitly is a dominant cross catcher ( which we all know is TT weakness) then don’t believe he will currently add more. Can literally only be that he needs to get his wage off the budget.

Re: Ryan Whitley
I'd still rather that we handn't binned Taylor off, but Whitley should be a decent signing to be fair.
Just hope it's for longer than a month because we're not going to be able to get any sort of consistency with a revolving door policy.
The likes of Whitley if he signs, Burton, Rowe and Lindley all on paper should be good signings given time, my worry here is that we might go from a squad that has too high an average age to a bunch of kids.

Re: Ryan Whitley
It seems clear now that Taylor won't be playing for the club while JG is in charge so it is probably in everyone's best interests for his move out to be sorted as quickly as possible while we use loanees for the rest of the season. I would guess JG didn't want to extend Robson's loan because of doubts about aspects of his game which became clear. Hopefully the new signing will be a different proposition with fewer mistakes and some dominance at set pieces.

Re: Ryan Whitley
The thing is, finding out on the job that the likes of Robson and Hannah are worse right now than the players that they replaced, has potentially cost us points that we couldn't afford to drop.

Re: Ryan Whitley
Yes they have probably not turned out as good as JG had hoped but until you try them nobody knows but you could just as easily unearthed a gem alas not the case with them 2
Re: Ryan Whitley
Heard this Whitley rumour isn’t even happening…
Re: Ryan Whitley
You do tend to hear a lot of unsubstanciated rumours.
Re: Ryan Whitley
"Come back Daz ?" for one. " Heard from certain sources that it was never on the table. Not sure how accurate these sources are but it’s just what I have heard." for another. You just posted that one.

Re: Ryan Whitley
There is certainly nothing on our or Yorkshire Web site about it, there fans forum just mentions that he needs to go out on loan to a NLN club to get game time.
Re: Ryan Whitley
Just as I post that a mate in York tells me he has left York and is heading to Darlo, he got it from a mate of a mate
. Still it does sound with Taylor being side lined, and Ryan wanting game time a likely possibility, may be haggling over money as he will be on a lot at York.

Re: Ryan Whitley
He's been released by York today. Doesn't say that he's signing for anyone though.
Come on Darlo!

Re: Ryan Whitley
Have your sources been setting you up?
Whitley just left York by mutual consent so he's going somewhere, bit of a co-incidence that...

Re: Ryan Whitley
For me it's all a bit too co-incidental that he's left York on the same day that people start hearing he's coming to Darlo.MikeinBlack2 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 31, 2023 3:30 pmHe's been released by York today. Doesn't say that he's signing for anyone though.
That might be the reason we didn't extend Robson's loan if a permanent deal for Whitley is being worked on.

Indicates here that he's set to join.
Wouldn't shock me if Tommy ended up joining Farsley either.

Re: Ryan Whitley
I just read that article and someone in the comments section saying they wouldn't be surprised if Whitley ended up at Scarborough.AndyPark wrote: ↑Tue Oct 31, 2023 5:28 pmhttps://www.yorkpress.co.uk/sport/yorkc ... l-consent/

Maybe it's true that he's not coming here, a few seem to have heard that now.

We shall see… read the article again no mention of Darlington anymoreGhost_Of_1883 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 31, 2023 5:26 pmHave your sources been setting you up?

Re: Ryan Whitley
Rumour central on the York fans Web site, was originally expected on loan to Darlo, Scarborough offered to take him permanently, and now he has been release by mutual consent so assume he has a permanent position lined up.
If Tommy does not feel like playing for the manager again, (although I don't believe he is that type of person), then we may have missed a trick to get a decent young keeper who could possibly have been another Stockdale for us, (good young keeper from York and sold for good money).
Wonder who will be in goal on Sat, worth going just to check

Re: Ryan Whitley
Is Tommy up for the fight or has he just spat his dummy and downed tools / agitated for a move ?
If he’s been pushed to work harder to regain his place then job done , if he’s not knuckled down and accepted the challenge then he’s not the man we need and the search must go on .
