Reality
Under Tommy Wright's reign we flirted with relegation a little bit but I thought we had the players to get us enough points.
Guys, the reality is, we have one foot in the next division already. I cannot see us getting out of this. We do not have goals in our team, midfield and attack. We need to have a decent run of form to first of all catch up with the teams above and then continue the form to stay out of the relegation zone - can anyone see that ...honestly? The manager will be gone in a couple of months and then we need a serious re-think of who is best to get us out of the league below.

Re: Reality
Saturday papered over the cracks.
Had Farsley been any good they could easily have had a couple of goals on the break from set pieces we had at their end of the pitch.
Seems like we got done with similar last night.

We are fan owned, are we supposed to just sit back & let the downward slide happen & not voice our concerns.11 years of hard work from everyone going down the pan, something has to give soon or it will be too late.

Re: Reality
At the risk of sounding like I'm repeating myself, I said after the Spenny match that the next ten games would have a big bearing on our fate this season and I still believe that to be the case. We've played two of them so far winning one and losing one, Rushall at home in a couple of weeks time is already looking like a six pointer, but I think we'll have a better idea of where we are after we've played Bishop's Stortford (weather permitting) in December. If we are still bottom or cut adrift in the bottom four by then, then it really does look like curtains with the likes of Tamworth, Scunthorpe, Brackley and South Shields to come after new year.PierremontQuaker03 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 08, 2023 12:16 pmUnder Tommy Wright's reign we flirted with relegation a little bit but I thought we had the players to get us enough points.

The situation has the potential to change again very quickly over the coming week if we somehow manage to beat either Chester or Chorley or god forbid beat them both! The only saving grace at the moment is the teams immediately around us also have some tough games coming up Gloucester go to Scunny on Saturday followed by a trip to Brackley in midweek, Bishops Stortford are away to Curzon then at home to Tamworth respectively, Rushall are away to Warrington followed by a home game against Alfreton and Kings Lynn have back to back home games against Spenny and Scunny.
As bleak as it looks right now, there's no point flicking the panic switch just yet.

Re: Reality
A little dramatic, don't you think? One (potential) relegation hardly undoes several promotions and the formation of a financially stable fan-owned club.
The fact that we're fan-owned also means we have limitations.

TBF Howe is rather busy with his own problems like team choice limited by Mags' injury crisis. What about we borrow Tonali, give him a disguise & false I.D. then stick him into the side until his ban is over. He stays match fit & Quakers stay up in NLN. Bet Josh would go for that (oops)MikeinBlack2 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 08, 2023 12:35 pmIt's OK, Josh knows Eddie Howe at Newcastle, he'll loan us top quality players to get us out of this mess....oh! Re: Reality
Unfortunately, Pierremont Quaker has a point....
If we look at previous seasons when we were in a spot of trouble, we had the goalscorers capable of getting us out of a scrap:
17/18: Styche, Thompson, Gillies, Syers = 39 league goals between them
18/19: Nicholson, Thompson, Saunders, Nelson, Styche = 39 league goals between them
Who can honestly look at our current squad, and give me a player (barring Jacob Hazel) capable of scoring 10+ a season? Bearing in mind Hatfield's best ever season yielded 6 goals?
Let's say Hazel gets 15, Hatfield gets 8 or 9, where are the rest of the goals coming from to keep us up?

We did more than flirt with the relegation zone in Tommy’s first season. We were very much in it at Christmas, luckily then we had the funds to bring in players like Styche to get us out of trouble.PierremontQuaker03 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 08, 2023 12:16 pmUnder Tommy Wright's reign we flirted with relegation a little bit but I thought we had the players to get us enough points.

Relegation would not be “the end of us” as I’ve seen someone claim but it would be pretty disastrous. It’s a very difficult league to get out of, the vast majority of teams that get promoted to our level do absolutely fine which tells you there isn’t that much of a gap.
Forget about what might happen in the league below, we need to throw the kitchen sink at avoiding it. DJ seemed very on board with the idea of a mid season boost the budget, why are we just sitting on the idea? What have we got to lose?
Re: Reality
What have we got to lose? A chunk of money on poor players that will be on more than 6 month contracts. If there is a boost the budget JG can’t be let anywhere near it. Any money raised needs to be given to the next manager to get us out of this mess. I have zero faith in JG so any money going his way will be a total waste.CrazyDarlo wrote: ↑Wed Nov 08, 2023 6:33 pmWe did more than flirt with the relegation zone in Tommy’s first season. I do understand some level of scepticism as some of Gowlings decision making on players have been questionable to say the least. On his recruitment so far, I would say that the three players that played last night, Lindley, Ngandu & Burton were very much three of our better players on the night. It’s ultimately Armstrong’s disastrous recruitment that has us in this mess.MB86DFC wrote: ↑Wed Nov 08, 2023 6:39 pmWhat have we got to lose? It’s the baffling decision to keep Armstrong on during the summer that’s caused this mess. Armstrong then exacerbated it with s*** signings. Then Gowling came in and took a massive shite on the bin fire we call a team.CrazyDarlo wrote: ↑Wed Nov 08, 2023 6:53 pmI do understand some level of scepticism as some of Gowlings decision making on players have been questionable to say the least. His recruitment has been a major part of the problem. I imagine when appointed he was told he could spend “x” on loan players etc then it’s done.CrazyDarlo wrote: ↑Wed Nov 08, 2023 6:53 pmI do understand some level of scepticism as some of Gowlings decision making on players have been questionable to say the least. Well his signings overall have been dire and naive at best. The initial keeper and centre half weren’t what we needed. The right back, left back and striker, even he doesn’t deem good enough to make the team. Say he was ok,d to sign 8 then 5 have been a disaster and the 3 above apart from Burton are at best average, and we all guessed Burton would be ok as played all season at our level getting good reviews.
As well that, his man management looks debatable although we have no actual proof I guess but doesn’t look great. His tactics at times are unbelievable too.
Of course AA started the mess in the summer but JG does not look one jot better in my view. If we had appointed a more experienced guy like say Watson or a Lakeland I reckon they would have brought in 3/4 players they knew, definitely not young kids, and got us organised into a simple system from day 1. JG still has no idea what system suits his players as changes it all the time.
But hey, bet his stats and PowerPoint would have been better.
Re: Reality
I think JG is statistical manager but as I said before statics don't get point on the board, he's reading to much into them ,we need players to fight for their place and the club not some statically brilliant players who really isn't up to the job, I don't think I'd subscribe to the notion of giving JG a mid season budget ,save it for a new season. Just an observation.
Re: Reality
This is fair - I don't understand why a board would be so impressed by statistics. Look at the stats he's produced since JG came, that's the reality. A capable football manager should be able to get better performances from his players and I think the squad he's got could be further up the league, should be realistically. I think we've seen enough to conclude he can't manage. We should have been able to get a point after the Farsley win but just sagged again after half-time. The striker, lack of one, issue is the most telling stat as set out so clearly above - and lets stop bashing Hazel, he was outstanding at Farsley but Gowling doesn't know how to get the best from him. He seems a bit odd with some of his 'patterns' - are we going to get Taylor at centre-forward next, Rivers in goal?onewayup wrote: ↑Thu Nov 09, 2023 8:36 amI think JG is statistical manager but as I said before statics don't get point on the board, he's reading to much into them ,we need players to fight for their place and the club not some statically brilliant players who really isn't up to the job, I don't think I'd subscribe to the notion of giving JG a mid season budget ,save it for a new season. In my preferred scenario we’d get rid now, find someone in time for the Xmas fixtures so we have as much time as possible to turn this around.

Re: Reality
This is the entire reason for my next 6 matches thread.
No, in his first 6 matches he demonstrated no ability to turn things around, but that was only 6 matches (5 league, 1 cup, 0-2-4), and 6 matches really isn't enough no matter how alarming the initial signs are.
The next 6 matches are almost like for like in terms of difficulty as the first 6 matches - 2 difficult matches and 4 relatively easier matches against likely bottom half finishers. So, we're looking for an improvement during November, as it's not as if November's matches are any harder overall.
So, if things are coming together bit by bit like he claims, then we should expect a much better points haul this month. I suggested 8 or 9 as a minimum and we currently have 3 points from 2 matches.
Obviously there's a big danger of losing the next 2 matches, or maybe gaining only 1 point, which massively puts the pressure on us again. No doubt we will all be in meltdown if that happens, but even in that worst case scenario we can still rescue the month by winning the last 2 matches at home against tinpot outfits that no one's ever heard of.
That's why we need to see this whole month out before passing judgement really.

What makes you think we'd "find someone" now who we couldn't find 6 weeks ago?MB86DFC wrote:On current form can you see JG being here next year? Do you feel he has demonstrated any ability to turn this around, justifying increased funds? Do you feel his signing a have been in the whole good, or bad?Spyman wrote: ↑Thu Nov 09, 2023 3:48 pmRight, so in your fantasy (ironically posted in a thread titled "reality"), when is this next manager being appointed? How long do we have to wait before we, as fans and owners, are allowed to put money into the playing budget again?MB86DFC wrote: ↑Thu Nov 09, 2023 2:58 pm
The next manager is whoever the board bring in, hopefully learning from their mistakes in this appointment. Someone like Watson or Lakeland would be nice …
I base my expectation that they will be better at attracting players because they couldn’t be much worse than JG.
If Gowling is still here next August, are you suggesting he's not given a budget to work with?
In my preferred scenario we’d get rid now, find someone in time for the Xmas fixtures so we have as much time as possible to turn this around.

We will be playing at the arena again next season - fact.
Quakerz - if you actually attended games and spoke to people you might actually find our facts, rather than spreading s*** on this board.

Re: Reality
I'm sure he told someone I know who was in hospitality for the Kings Lynn game that we did speak to him about the managers job
Re: Reality
We did interview him in a phone call.
Re: Reality
Reality for me is josh has to go if no improvement in next 3/4 matches ,the club has to give any new manager the chance to turn this disastrous start to this season around. If josh hasn't done that in next 3/4 matches then I don't think he will be able to manage for the rest of the season, let's be honest the new manager bounce just hasn't materialized. ,so after trying his planned playing style not working it would be time for another manager to turn the clubs fortunes around.
Just my opinion, but I think you can only take so much so josh you want the job let's get this sorted now. Us fans and everyone connected with the club demand improvement , good luck for the next 3/4 matches
