I think that is possibly the biggest defeat in my time of watching Darlington going back to the 1960s. Everything that could have gone wrong, did go wrong tonight. All I would say is, let’s try to refrain from knee jerk reactions, and everyone needs to keep calm.

4 points from next 2 home games needed….I know it doesn’t sound likely based on tonight but most people were writing off the Chester game too
Point v Warrington then win the 6 pointer v rushall

I agree. I think chopping the manager again is probably not the right move just now. We're seeing improvements but they are punctuated by disasters. It's time to start showing consistency - and that isn't coming by ripping it up again.

It is consistent, apart from the odd 45 minutes every 10 games we are shite

Exactly seems the same people wanting immediate change were the ones who wanted to give laughing boy unlimited time as we lurched from one disaster to another the previous 9 months

That being said Gowling doesn’t get a completely free pass and needs to show improvement in the coming month or so

No "disaster" under AA was anything like this.

The amount of times I have heard it is hard to play against 10 men, (other teams seem to score against us with 10 men), we just don't have any leaders or organisers in the team. Did not understand why Platt wasn't brought on when we went down to 10 men, seemed the sensible course to me against a team like chorley. Confidence in the team was bad, now it will be horrendous.
Defence has been bad since Jan, and even with 2 defensive managers we can't change it, so need new players that we can't afford, (or find I would think),.
I will be interested in JG post match interview.
I can't make Friday nights fans forum, but hope it doesn't degenerate, as don't want to see mass resignations from the board etc because it becomes toxic, we are in this together now and have to stick together and hope for the best.

I don’t recall any 8-0 defeats under Alun.
Let’s face it, we have signed a striker who isn’t match fit, sacked off a striker who is fit and gets goals, and the one currently in favour is now banned for 3 games. Great management that.

We need 6 points from the next 2 matches, minimum 4-0 each win to wipe out the 0-8 tonight. Nothing less.

Four points will not do.

Yes was poor management from Gowling telling Nelson to get himself sent off in the first 5 minutes

I don’t want to hear the “but we only had 10 men brigade”. Shut up shop, battle hard and maybe concede one or two more. Lose respectfully. Leave it all out there. Body on the line for every cross and shot.

That right there was a spineless capitulation. It’s a shambles. To lose 8 (EIGHT) nil is pathetic. A lot of the players need to take a look at themselves but also, Gowling is not the answer.

I’d say there’s been more disasters in the short reign under Gowling than anything under Armstrong.
Still the whingers got their way and look where we are now, even fucking worse!

We are consistent. The good 1st half against Chester was the anomaly. We have been consistently abysmal all season, and we are getting worse

Thing is Old Git if it was a one off performance I would agree but how many knee jerk reactions do we have to have before it isn’t a knee jerk any more but a valid reaction?

Two consecutive 7-0 defeats in 1972/3.
What price two consecutive 8-0 defeats this year, Scunthorpe away next.

An abject capitulation like that really does set the alarm bells ringing about things behind the scenes as regards tactics, selection, motivation, spirit and leadership.

Agreed. Yet we were told this was a great group of lads who want to do well. The co-commentator tonight was saying there's no system, no skill, no leaders, no bottle.

This, this & this.

The players gave up tonight - that performance was the worst I've seen from any DFC side, ever. The tactics of constantly playing from the back at 0-3 and not going into damage limitation mode has cost us.

Zero game management whatsoever.

I have never watched a game where the referee felt sorry for us, until tonight.

We are seriously pinning our hopes on an un-fit Asante bailing us out of this mess.

What matters now is the 2 home games next week against Warrington and Rushall. I still think 4 points from those 2 games would be reasonable, and would mean 10 points gained from 6 league games. If we achieve that it will be a big improvement on the form earlier in the season.

Tbf Gowling has already got more points in the last 5 games than Armstrong did in his 9 games.
