He had to try to change a lot quickly after the catastrophe he inherited
No, he didn't.

We required two or three fresh faces, not a complete upheaval - nine new players (three of which have returned to their parent clubs), another two out of the door (soon to be three), and at least another four offered to other clubs.

And before people say how shiite our form was pre-JG, a good coach makes players better, organised, fitter, and motivated, as well as having a clear system/style of play.

Look at the jobs Adam Lakeland & Jim Bentley have done at Kings Lynn & Southport, as examples.

We lauded the players after the Chester & Farsley game, 8/11 of the players who started in both games were signed by AA.

Who have been scoring the goals/creating since JG came in? Hedley, Hatfield, Salkeld, Hazel... even Rivers last Saturday!

I agree with you that it was AAs time to leave, he looked like a beaten man from January onwards, and this no doubt contributed to an extremely poor run of form - but JG has tried to upheave the place.

& whilst I'm on, what also makes a good coach is effective player recruitment.

That does not mean bringing in eight new players and only three of them being in the starting eleven after less than two months in the job.

Absolutely spot on 2009.Gowlings signings smack of shear panic signings and only Burton was up to scratch.Forget the rest.

Gutted Burton has gone back, was really hoping we would be able to extend his loan, I honestly don’t think Sukar, lees or lawlor are good enough (in my opinion) but it is what it is!
Agree with all that. Loanees are at best a sticking plaster solution which can lead to complications if we get to rely on them, risking alienation of those players who are under contract. Burton is excellent & would have been good to get him permanently but now he's gone & Sukar has to step up.

I’d fully understand if Sukar refused to play but he doesn’t seem that sort of character. Seems a player who will battle so I think he’ll step up.
If he refuses to play, then surely we'd have rights to tear up his contract.

He's a contracted footballer who should be expected to step up & play when called upon.

I don't think he would do that mind.

Sukar whos been sacked off is now needed you mean! Could he be blamed if he didn't really give a toss and just went through the motions for a man who obviously doesn't want him around the club?
By all accounts Sukar had a good game yesterday, sometimes a spell out of the team is good for a player. So overdramatic.

How do you know he was treated in a poor way ? At the forum Josh said that Sukar had lost confidence after the Tamworth game and he had been rested for his own good. He had done this after speaking to the player and he felt that after doing well in training he was now ready to return to action.
Have you spoken to Sukar and has he given you a different account or are you just making assumptions of your own ? You could argue that if Sukar has benefited from a rest and has come back refreshed and playing well, then that is a good piece of man management from Gowling.

Convenient he hit peak training performance just as our first choice CB got injured and the other was recalled from his loan. Could it be that JG had no choice but to bring him back and tried to spin it positively?

Taken from another forum, not a Darlo one either….

“ It started before the last appointment, but Gowling doesn't have a clue what he's doing and has no man management skills. Spoke to a player recently who said he's just been frozen out and the manager just stopped talking to him without any kind of fallout 🤷‍♂️

Add that to what I hear through the grapevine from trusted sources, and I’ll stick by my view that Sukar, amongst others, have been badly treated by the new manager.

The game where it did look as though something else was going on was Spennymoor. JG opted to have no central defenders on the bench, leaving Sukar and Lees out of the squad. Of course the inevitable happened and Lawlor was injured in the first half, leaving us with no suitable replacement and the subsequent reshuffle really damaged our chances in the game.

Yep, JG also had no other choice as there were no takers for Sukar when he was offered-out to other clubs.

If correct that he was offered to other clubs and there were no takers maybe that is because he was not playing well. That would suggest Josh did the right thing by taking him out of the team for a while. If he now comes back in and does well, which I hope he does, then it could be seen as a good piece of management. I am not saying he has had a good start to his managerial reign at Darlington, but I do think some people on here will shape events to suit their narrative, which is a negative view of the manager. Of course he has made some mistakes, but give the bloke a chance and get behind him and support the team.

There could be numerous reasons why there were no takers - transfer fee, wages, location, or the player simply not wanting to move can play a part.

Not having a good start to his managerial reign is an understatement.

I'm sure I can remember after a particularly bad display at Feethams, David Hodgson put the entire team on the transfer list! He said something like "if any team wants any of these players give me a ring" :o

We have won 2 of our last 4 league games so I think even his most ardent critics would have to concede that there has been some recent improvement. Of course Chorley was an absolute nightmare, but lets see where we are after the 2 home games this week. If we can get 6 or even 4 points things will look a lot brighter.

This needs to be done, they are all a shower

Rip it up and start again.

I take it no players are contracted beyond next season? The final straw was the 8-0 with these players. I can understand getting spanked by Scunny as they are a full time side, but that Chorley defeat was horrific. The fact that JG is still here is baffling, we have seen very little since he has been here, he talks a good game, but we are in a mess and he is not the right person with the right experience to sort it out.

Losing one of those matches 8-0 completely cancels out any perceived improvement.

Effectively then, there has been no improvement.

I agree with you that we need to win these 2 home matches - but I'm adding an extra stipulation to this - we need a positive goal difference of 8 from them. I don't want to see us just scrape by (or god forbid lose or draw either), I want to see us batter these fuckers. They are both clubs that I've never heard of, and we are Darlington FC.

Over to you Josh, and the underperforming wage stealers that pull on our shirt. Remember, we lost 8 (eight) nil.

I’ll be delighted with two 1-0 victories.

I'll be happy with two 4-0 victories. Or a 5-0 + 3-0. Or a 6-2 + a 4-2, you get my drift.

1-0 victories would have been OK had we lost 2-0 at Chorley.

But we didn't so they're not.

Absolutely ridiculous argument.

There's a column in the table for goal difference, so no it's not.

Winning 1-0 (not that we will anyway) either side of an 8-0 hammering, is the equivalent of spray painting a dogshit.

The column that comes first is the one for points. I take it you'd be happier if we draw all three games? We'd only have three points and not six, but at least our goal difference would be zero.
