Well Adam Lakeland showed this week how to get the better of Scunny. He said he formulated a gameplan and "the lads executed it brilliantly."

"The amount of effort, workrate, determination, resilience, character, balls that we showed is everything I want to see in my team,” he said after King's Lynn's victory. He had inherited a drifting side, devoid of confidence and slowly built them into a fighting unit.

Scunny's midfielders like Butterfield and Clunan make them tick and you have to get to grips with them and knock them off their stride to get anywhere.

We should expect a fully committed, organised and battling performance as a minimum tomorrow. It's amazing what a carefully devised gameplan can do coupled with a bit of organisation, leadership and team spirit.

I mean, honestly pre the game on paper what is the expectation as a good result away to Scunthorpe? Arguably what lose by 1 or better = good/great even?. Lose by 2-3 is expected, lose by 4 is bad, and 5 or more is terrible?

Granted it’s the attitude of performance, the grit of it, which is as poignant as the scoreline.

Finished 2-0. On the face of it not a disgrace, but as I wasn’t there don’t really know how we played. Hopefully, some of our ardent fans that made the trip will post later and give us the lowdown. Never happy to lose, but maybe some pride restored before a crucial week with 2 home league games to come.

No, they are resting players. There is very little money to be made from the Trophy unless you get to Wembley.

Today was mission accomplished (I detest writing that) to the extent of avoiding another humiliating battering, showing some limited signs of recovery from Tuesday and getting our new signing on the pitch. Scunny will also be pleased to get the game won by half-time so they didn't have to over-extend themselves for the rest of the game.

For us the acid test of whether we can realistically launch a consistent survival battle comes now. No excuses, no more talking, no more one step forward and two steps back. Only some positive and sustained results will do.

Definitely. Shows the levels needed in that division as well.

I still have hope we will finish the year outside the relegation zone. If we do that we just need to put perform what is around us.

Scunthorpe won that at a canter today. We got nowhere near them for all of the first half and most of the second. However, we did show up for the last ten minutes and had a couple of chances.
I’d have liked a cup run but there was no chance we were going to beat them today.

Scunthorpe looked like a team from a higher league, I suppose next year they probably will be! If we can play like we did for the last ten minutes against Warrington on Tuesday we might just get something. Was nice to see Asante get on the pitch, he had a few neat touches but can’t really judge from today. Hopefully we’ll see him again on Tuesday.

Good to see the fans applauding the players at the end today. We need 6 points from the next 2 matches though, as Heaton out said above I don’t think 4 will be enough.

Spoke to some of their fans at the end who were impressed with us in the 2nd half

To be honest, I quite enjoyed the game, first goal was just poor marking and concentration, second goal was a shot from outside the box in the top corner, both possibly stopable, other than that although in the first half I didn't think they caused Tommy any real problem, although they controlled the half and we did mot trouble their keeper once.
Second half, thought we matched them without causing them any trouble until we made the subs, our new striker, Hatfield and Salkeld and last 10 mins thought we had 4 opportunities, with some nice play. Our players seem afraid to shoot unless they are in the box, down to confidence I suppose.
The young fans at the back were brilliant they sang the whole game.
Don't know how many players Scunthorpe have but squad numbers on the pitch had several in the 40's.
Against a team expected to be promoted, I was not down hearted with the performance.

Exactly this…we obviously rested players with an eye to our two pretty crucial games next week. Thought Lees looked at fault for the first but he grew into the game and looked more solid. Second was a long-ranger.
My standouts today - Griff, Sukar, Moke, Ngandu. We looked better when Will and Salkeld came on but understood resting them ahead of next week. Sims was poor and Hazel offered nothing (on what looked like his curtain call judging by his waving bye bye to us when subbed plus the others hugging him at final whistle??). Asante was clearly rusty and lacked match fitness BUT BUT BUT he’s a big unit and looked a real handful - fair play to JG for bagging the athletic target man that AA said were so hard to find. If he can hold the ball up and bring Salkeld, Hatfield, Rivers et al into play around the area then we’ll carry much more of a threat. Also, holding the ball up the other end will mean we’ll have fewer counterattacks to deal with

That’s great, but as we are eating into our cash reserves subsidising Gowling-ball I’m sure they’d much prefer both the already guaranteed gate receipts and prize money for winning a game of football.
