I used to love the rivals message board. Stiv still goes to games, but he's not allowed on uncovered. Does anybody remember when we had invasions of other clubs MB's?quaker4life wrote: ↑Sun Nov 19, 2023 4:06 pmHe reminds me of JO01 who used to post on the rivals board back in t'day about "cool and sombre" 4-0 victories.Ghost_Of_1883 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 19, 2023 3:59 pmBecause it's Lo, the dullest yet most deliberately contrarian man on the internet. Why can you never give a straight answer, and why does my brain hurt when deciphering your posts?
Unfortunately he sometimes makes good points though.
Speaking of the old rivals board I wonder what kingkev is up to these days.

For me it’s key the manager who is leading the team should be on the bus when it leaves Darlington to talk tactics, motivate etcquaker4life wrote: ↑Sun Nov 19, 2023 3:56 pmIf not enough players are on the bus then that banter etc will be mostly non existent anyway, it might be good for team building but for a part time non league club it isn't cost effective.

I remember your spats with DJ over his inclusion in the ROH, I even won it myself a few times!
dfc_ajb's thread with a detailed report about his open trial at Luton comes to mind as well.

If I recall rightly your invasion of the Leeds board caused a little bit of controversy, I believe it was around the time they entered administration in 2006/07 so it wasn't well received on either side!
That should be done in the changing room and on the training ground, the main function of the bus is to get the team from A to B, if it is more practical for the majority of players to make their own way to matches then there really isn't much sense shedding out £££ to hire one.
These are part time footballers, we are a part time non league club and we are not a bottomless pit its common practice in most businesses to strip unecessary costs and I doubt we are any different especially in today's financial climate.

Was anything at all mentioned about the floodlights at this forum?
Oh Blackwell Meadows clock - You are a waste of time

Re: Forum
Yes it was. Apparently an electrician has looked at the problems and there is a difficulty getting the necessary replacement part due to the age of the floodlights. However, it was said that at least 2 of the lights out of 3 on the pylon should now be working, so hopefully a lot better.theoriginalfatcat wrote: ↑Sun Nov 19, 2023 9:42 pmWas anything at all mentioned about the floodlights at this forum?
As for the new floodlights, an engineers report was required regarding the suitability of the pylons to bear the weight of the new lights. It was said that there should not be a problem with this, and all being well they could be in place early in the New Year. The cost of the lighting system will be split 70% by a grant and 15% each from the Rugby Club and Football Club. The total cost for DFC will be around £6,000.

We had quite a few invasions. I think the first one was Arsenal and then Liverpool, I remember Everton fans were laughing their heads off, as the Liverpool MB was taken over by Darlo fans. I think the one that I remember that went wrong was WBA, when a Darlo fan wasn't very complimentary of Jeff Astle who had just passed away. But they were great fun and generally taken in good heart.quaker4life wrote: ↑Sun Nov 19, 2023 6:15 pmSo did I!Darlo_Pete wrote: ↑Sun Nov 19, 2023 5:27 pmI used to love the rivals message board. At the time we were generally in the top 10 busiest Rivals MB's which was pretty impressive for a little old club like Darlo.

When travelling on the fan's coaches we used to look out for Lance Robson's bright yellow E-type Jag passing us at some point, which as he had surgery on Saturday mornings it virtually always did. As we had players from York, Grimsby and Leeds areas also I doubt they came to Darlo to get the bus to Sincil Bank etc. I do not remember that ever being used as an excuse if we lost back then.quaker4life wrote: ↑Sun Nov 19, 2023 4:15 pmI would assume the club is also subsudising this accomodation? Unfortunately we can't have our cake and eat it too when it comes to finances, if we're funding accomodation then funding elsewhere may have to be cut and if that means sacraficing the team bus then so be it.loan_star wrote: ↑Sun Nov 19, 2023 4:07 pm
It was a main reason why the Wright experiment didn’t work. Even if a couple of the new signings are moving into a club house in Darlington it still doesn’t do much for team spirit if they are all making their own way to a game. It would probably include the manager and assistant too. It’s not good enough in my opinion.
Personally I don't think losing a few hours on a bus together every other week is going to make much difference, but I understand your point.

Lance Robson was well before my time but I'm aware it was commonplace for players to have day jobs, travelling from somewhere like Grimsby to get on a bus at Darlington to go back down the road to somewhere like York would have been nonsensical.EDJOHNS wrote: ↑Mon Nov 20, 2023 9:12 am

For a long away journey where an overnight stop is required then a bus would be more practical as you could pick them up a long the way, I in the Northern League you'd often see players turn up to games in their cars and work vans! This is in non league and yet people seem to think we still operate as a full time professional club as we did in the EFL many moons ago.

I am not a fan of "overnighters" at this level. Again, I remember stopping off at roadside cafes coming back from Torquay and Exeter etc and the team coach would also pull up and the players tuck into pie and mash or some such. I know times have changed and we know more about fitness etc, but honestly, an overnight to Hereford etc? Leave 3/4 of an hour after the game and they can be home and in their own beds for between 4-5 hours. Surely more people get a better sleep in their own bed than in a hotel, and if they stay the night before then it is 7-8 hours kicking their heels before the game. I simply don't see how that is "relaxing"quaker4life wrote: ↑Mon Nov 20, 2023 6:03 pmLance Robson was well before my time but I'm aware it was commonplace for players to have day jobs, travelling from somewhere like Grimsby to get on a bus at Darlington to go back down the road to somewhere like York would have been nonsensical.EDJOHNS wrote: ↑Mon Nov 20, 2023 9:12 am
