There is contextualising how you feel, and then there is making a clear statement that is very blatantly untrue to make you sound a bit better than you actually are.
Making yourself sound better than you are?

I guess I am not convinced any right minded individual would see the aftermath of an 8-0 defeat as an opportunity to market their abilities.

Especially when it quite a clear evidencible 'claim'

I doubt it was the claim that he expected to be hounded over. But he should know better and I am sure he will be more guarded in future interviews.

As I have been taught aways say less, avoid any specifics as people will always look to trip you up over detail.
Dress it up however you want, ultimately it just shows he is full of s***
You are wasting your time.

Lo continuously plays devils advocate and makes ridiculous suggestions or insinuations.

See the 'Gowling MUST go' thread in regards to the lack of damage limitation in the Chorley game - a game he didn't even watch. And nor am I convinced he listened to the FF either.

I just don't think it was a hugely sinister lie, in fact I didn't think it was much more than a throwaway comment.

More concerned with the next 10 games tbh. They are make or break for our season.

I do suspect the board are thinking that a more 'obvious' appointment might have avoided some of this. If Steve Watson / Lakeland had come in and had the same set of results I suspect there would have been more patience.

It was a blantant lie which insulted the intelligence of everyone he told it to, the 4-0 at Tamworth was only last month and the rest could have been verified with a quick internet search so why he even said that, given it was so easy to disprove to begin with is beyond me? Did he think it would be that easy to pull the wool over people's eyes?

Not that he has garnered much credibility so far, but what little (or any) he had has been knocked by that comment it was baseless and nonsensical and if he really believed people would just blindly accept it then he really is more of a narcissicist then he lets on.

I think 2 wins in 11 league and cup games, including an astonishing 8-0 humping by one of our peers, would test the patience of anyone, whoever is at the helm.

Have you heard the comments? Or just read the reaction to them? Please answer simply.

It’s not only what he said, it’s the authority in which he said it that shows it was not a throw away comment.

I also think he referred to not losing by more than 2 as both a manager and a player. I can’t be arsed to go back through all his playing results but if he hadn’t lost by a higher margin than 2 I’d be amazed.

However the Chair of the DFCSG made excuses, that we are part-time, that we played at the weekend, that our players have days-jobs - ALL challenges that Chorley faced before the fixture. That's what I'm not happy with.
That is the chair of the majority shareholder. Who gave their perspective on things - in fact didn't they position it from the outset about that it was their reflections in the aftermath.

So your not happy person has shared their own reflections on things.

I also didn't like DJs tone, the fact he dug-out AA, or Gowling lying saying he has never lost before by over two goals in his managerial career, when he has - FOUR times at Hereford
I doubt this was intended as a precise review of all his results It wasn't to position that the feeling of being battered like that wasn't something he was used to, and not one he is used to. He could have conditioned it better but I think you are looking for a stick to beat him with to suggest he is misleading you in some form. He's not on trial he was asked for his perspectives on a game of football.

Weird world when we get to the point where our Supporters Liaison Officer, who is one of our most committed fans isn't allowed to ask questions in a public forum.

Do you think he shouldn't be allowed to ask anything you think he should be excluded from participating despite being a shareholder, active volunteer and fan?
The question was so obviously designed and planted to sway opinion, it was embarrassing. Also it was incorrect. Asanti isn’t the “best striker we’ve ever signed”. Mark Beck is better
Gabbiadini, Currie and Abbot were the best strikers we've ever signed.
You're forgetting about Speedie :D

Yes - well as much as could be made out...genuinely interpreted that it was in the context of his quote after the game ie. "I've never lost like that before" (or whatever the quote was) or even close to.

...but then I could have been listening for that.

I didn't hear a bit where he stuck to guns when challenged with facts / results and he made out that didnt happen? Which seems to be suggested from comments above.

Gowling replied to a fan on Friday night and even said something along the lines of - 'check my record'.

And in the pre-match released on the same morning, he said he had never been beaten by more than two goals before.

You probably didn't listen to that interview either?

Quakers 2009, it was actually a direct response to the fact that a fan said that we'd lost 4-0 at Tamworth, to which he said 'Google it', which makes it even worse. We're entering Comical Ali territory here.

Clearly not forensically enough. That he made a definitive claim outside the context of never been involved in a game like that / not lost like that before.

I actually thought he made reference to losing 4-0 at Tamworth in that interview but I might be mistaken.

Edit: just listened back on the topic of how are the lads hurting after that sort of defeat "I've come in here, and I don't think I've lost by more than two goals before, but then we lost four and then lost like that".

As I say. When people want to go after you they will pick at the details, so he'd have clearly been better sticking to generics ie "not lost like that or anywhere close to it". I still don't listen back to it as some claim of unrivalled brilliance.

We are also debating our own interpretations of what an individuals intent / motivation was behind something that they said...which is probably quite pointless. I guess since you felt lied to you at least you now know the truth - so whatever false impression you had based on the two goal statement can now be rectified / recallibrated.

Another thing I don’t see as being mentioned from the forum is that if there’s only a handful of players on the bus they’ll make alternative plans to get to matches. No team bonding on the bus journey then. More problems that were part of the Wright era raising its head again.

Why can you never give a straight answer, and why does my brain hurt when deciphering your posts?

JG said words to the effect of (immediately after the Chorley game) - I've never been involved in a game like that before' - that is fair enough, as he hasn't.

In the pre-match interview a few days later, he would have been better off just not claiming it in the first place (that he has never been beaten by more than two goals) - to then re-affirm it at the FF is a joke.

This is NOT me picking out the details, but stating facts and calling it out for what it is. It also isn't 'interpreting intent or motivation' - what he has said is either the truth, or it isn't.

If you, as a referee, state that you have never sent-off more than two players in one game during your refereeing career, but it turns out that the season before you branded four red cards in five different games, that makes you a bullshitter.

Lo, it was Gowling who put the benchmark of 2 goals in. He had no intention of saying, 'I've never lost like that'.

Brill. That is your assessment - fair enough.

I have put forward my interpretation. I didn't read it as an attempt at a defeat and merely said in context of relative defeats.

You don't feel like that you feel that it was an attempt to tell a very specific lie for I guess reasons.

To be honest, if too few players are using the bus then it becomes an unncessary additional expense.

But it’s also a necessary part of building a team spirit, all the lads traveling to a game together, pre match banter on the bus building a positive team spirit. Instead they’ll all rock up in their car schools about an hour before the game.

If not enough players are on the bus then that banter etc will be mostly non existent anyway, it might be good for team building but for a part time non league club it isn't cost effective.

He reminds me of JO01 who used to post on the rivals board back in t'day about "cool and sombre" 4-0 victories.

Speaking of the old rivals board I wonder what kingkev is up to these days.

It was a main reason why the Wright experiment didn’t work. Even if a couple of the new signings are moving into a club house in Darlington it still doesn’t do much for team spirit if they are all making their own way to a game. It would probably include the manager and assistant too. It’s not good enough in my opinion.

I would assume the club is also subsudising this accomodation? Unfortunately we can't have our cake and eat it too when it comes to finances, if we're funding accomodation then funding elsewhere may have to be cut and if that means sacraficing the team bus then so be it.

Personally I don't think losing a few hours on a bus together every other week is going to make much difference, but I understand your point.
