We scored an away goal, we had a couple of chances and if our defence & keeper get it together we won't be push overs. We're not bottom so all is not so bad.

In all honesty Aldershot was always a tough place for teams to go last season, and they are no mugs. Was always gonna be tough with such a brand new squad. We'll be alright.

Let's not get too downbeat. We've played one game. We're only three points from top...

I'm not in a panic but from the pre-season games I saw and listening to today's game, I really don't think the 74-year-old forward line will work at all. We're too slow up front and too static to cause teams serious problems. I can't see Windass and Thorpe getting more than a handful of goals between them all season. Hopefully Dowson and maybe Main when fit will help to give us the options and energy that we really need.

It's only one goal worse than last season and Ray Simpson put their goals down to our "mistakes".

FFS lads its the 1st match and I'd be much more worried if I were a Bradford or a Bury fan.

Give the team a chance to play together. Pre-season doesn't count - too many changes.

Deano will get into double figures I'm sure, Thorpe I'm not that keen on. Dowson I hope is up to it and also young Curtis Main will bag some. We will need the mid field to be able to score as well though. We desperately need to get the defence/keeper steady then we will nick a few games.

Dowson is only here on a months long loan, wouldnt suprise me if he went on to score 4-5 goals and then some League One side will come in and loan him for the rest of the season.

I think we should look at any Main goals as a bonus. I agree with Lucan on the strike force Thorpe and Windass are similar, a more mobile player is needed to play off them.

Only a month! Bugger!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I didn't realise that, is it a rolling loan? I hope Toddy has someonr lined up to replace him then, if it's Curtis Main then we ar thin on the ground for injuries etc.

I think they are only month loans, so both players can look at club and see how much they play. Just like Billy Clarke did last season.... Came for one month and stayed for six.

The only negative is if they bang in a few goals in this first month, some bigger clubs may take a chance on him.

To be honest I thought Thorpe was our best player until he went off. Windass did very little but got no service at all.

We looked a bit brighter when the mackem came on so maybe we'll see more of him on Monday.

Thorpe has only scored a total of about ten goals over the last two seasons. He'll win a fair few headers and hold the ball up OK but he ain't gonna bag much in the way of goals. I don't think Windass is going to be scoring freely either at 40 even if it is Division Four. I can see goals being a real problem this season.

Who is to say that Dowson and Main won't chip in with a few?

it would also be nice to see why our goal was chalked off in the first half, i didnt see anything other than 2 players going for a header then a volley from a darlo player into the top corner with a shots player on the deck

Ray Simpson said it was disallowed because the player who got the knockdown (Lumsdon?) for Jeff Smith fouled the Aldershot player in the process of winning the ball.
