I could never quite find the right words to describe a Simon Johnson performance before now.cwisstoffhur wrote:i had no idea he'd signed for bury, i look forward to possibly seeing him running around like a panicing duck on saturday

He reminded me of a crab. He could only run sideways.
Re: Simon Johnson
He'd walk into our current team. He was doing great for Hereford for the past couple of seasons.
Re: Simon Johnson
I bet he scores against us. He was terrible when he was with us. Perhaps Hodgy and others couldnt get the best out of him becuase he seems to have done ok down at Hereford

Re: Simon Johnson
Did anyone see the tackle Carlton put in to get injured. It was a disgusting challenge and he should have got sent off for it. He went in to injure Teixeira and he came out worse. Im struggling to have sympathy for the lad.

Yes - sideways.Breedon wrote:He'd walk into our current team.

Re: Simon Johnson
Given his billing when we signed him I rate him as one of the biggest disappointments in a Darlo shirt in recent seasons. ( Apart from in one game at Lincoln)
Although he had a bit of a run in Hereford's side toward the end of the 07/08 season they cancelled his contract in April so he was hardly doing great for them.

Re: Simon Johnson
I remember Johnson getting a few "hero" chants in pre-season when he signed. I expected him to be a good signing - he looked promising in pre-season - but once it became clear that his legs were attached at an angle 90º to the left of where they should have been, he was a disappointment.
There haven't been many bigger disappointments in the last few years. Fabien Bossy was apparently going to set League 2 alight, not sure what happened there. Micky Cummins wasn't bad, but he was nowhere near as good as everybody expected and a bit of a let down. Johnson was probably more of a let down though.

Re: Simon Johnson
Very good shout on Cummins. He did ok but was not as good as billed.
Other Darlo signings who haven't lived up to expectations?
Julian Joachim? Some great performances in his second season and a handful of cracking goals but overall not worth the money we spent
Bobby Petta. Although this was predictable, I still thought he would stand out more in league two than he did.
Going back a lot of years Nick Pickering and Bernie Slaven aswell.
Any more obvious ones?

I had originally typed Joachim, as I don't think he had the impact most people expected, but I decided to omit him as I still think he was a positive addition to the team (albeit an expensive one), particularly in his second season.StevieMardenboro wrote:Very good shout on Cummins. I'd forgotten about Petta (can you really blame me!), but I agree.
Matty Appleby's return wasn't very successful, though I can't really remember what people's expectations were.

Joachim wasn't a dissapointment. He had a mixed first season but was very good in his second year.Hawkeye wrote:I had originally typed Joachim, as I don't think he had the impact most people expected, but I decided to omit him as I still think he was a positive addition to the team (albeit an expensive one), particularly in his second season.StevieMardenboro wrote:Very good shout on Cummins. Appleby came in from Oldham I think and played for free for a few months. I don't think anyone had huge hopes for him but there's no doubt he was nowhere near the player he was first time round.
Adam Reed, another who never should've come back, and Lee Ellison.
Craig Russell first time round was a big dissapointment - he came in on loan off the back of a couple of really impressive seasons and did bugger all. So we let him go. Only to bring him back again a couple of years later

Re: Simon Johnson
I did like Joachim and I agree he was one of our best players in 07/08 its just that I expected him to have more of an impact than he did . .
He looked like a good league two right winger. I had hoped he would be more like Heaney or Gabbiadini who stood out a mile in the fourth division.
Maybe I get too excited everytime Darlo sign someone I have once seen on the telly??

The thing is that he'd been scoring for fun at Boston. People thought it'd be the same for us.StevieMardenboro wrote:I did like Joachim and I agree he was one of our best players in 07/08 its just that I expected him to have more of an impact than he did . .

Re: Simon Johnson
I agree about all of the above, in particular Petta and for that matter Russell. But didn't Russell play for no wages in his second spell when we were (yet again) on the bones of our arse? Scored a cracker against Chester? aswell didn't he? I'll forgive him!!!Spyman wrote:Joachim wasn't a dissapointment.
