It's highly likely that there will be as its Rememberance Weekend.

I still insist on 2 min's. (and Yes, though I was alone in my bedroom I still stood).
I do not understand why people have so little self control that it was thought needed to cut the time given to those who fell in half.

Well they should be given an hour but I think it's the thought that counts, not whether it's one minute or two.

DOTU,
you may not be old enough to remember this, but it is relatively recently that it was reduced from 2 to 1 min, "Because people don't have the time any more" was the main reason given for the reduction.
I am not old enough to remember the 2nd war, but old enough to remember rationing, and the fear that was still in people that it may all kick off again East v West.
I thought at the time the reduction was wrong, and with each passing year I believe more strongly that school children should go on trips to "The killing fields" to see what things were like,( in many places things still refuse to grow), and to get it to hit home how wasteful the wars were for so many lost lives. This in the hope, rather forlorn, that we never go there again.
And with that last comment I mean no dis-respect whatsoever to any other service personel who have lost there lives in ANY conflict for there country.

the length of time is really not the issue, the main thing is that people take a moment to reflect - whether its one minute or two its not much to ask.

Exactly. Like I said: it's the thought that counts and not whether it's one or two minutes.

I totally agree that it is the thought that counts. I just feel so sad that it was thought that it was to much to ask people once a year to stay quiet and still for 2 min's. I think it says a lot about how self centered people have become over the last 20-25 years, and I aim that at people in the whole, not anyone in particular. If I may add on here, as for burning poppies etc, now I will say out loud just send the sick bastards back where they came from.

Minutes silence?

I wasn't aware it had been reduced to a single minute, at my work we did 2 minutes as usual.

I'm pretty sure it was 2 minutes everywhere this year.
