FAO don'tbuythesun
Now then good post about AWAY DAY travel whilst reading it brought memories of my youth, take it from you’re the turn of your post and reference to Rome 77 you might have been a bit of a Scallie in your youth. For me the 80’s was the best time of my life the for me I got the bug at the end of 82 Sheffield United got promotion at Feethams and brought a mod and a half, kicking off in all parts of the town Darlo had a reasonable mod at that time but on that day outnumbered big style, saying that a mob from Boro came through and yet again we my have lost it on the pitch but gave as good as we got off the pitch. From then on it was the casual way it made you live for Saturdays lads being lads having beer and a doing what lads do, down the town on a Friday for a skin full and Saturday was Football Day rest of the week was counting the days down to Saturday coupled with a the odd rogueing" trip (Head Bag full of gear) to get some good clobber for a Saturday. As time has gone on I have drifted away from the casual scene but still like the gear (old school clobber) but as they say once you have the bug you are an addict and as old as I am it will always remain part of me yes it’s a mucks game now there’s no going back to the 80s thus magic days have long gone jail terms are on the cards now and frankly speaking whets the point, so we remember the good old days with a smile and thanks we had enough about us not to get pulled by the OB.

hi-as it's footie related I think the topic police will let me reply! I wasn't too involved with the bother but I was there! I remember leeds coming over the fences into our section, united coming into the Kop-they had to be surrounded and many scary but buzzing moments on our travels with the Annie Road boys and girls. A trip to St Etienne in 77 -five days in a ford escort was a great trip. If you get a chance read "The boys from the mersey"-your head bag probably gets a mention or two. I have some unusual gazelles, a pair of SL80s and the mandatory Sambas! even in my 50s i get stopped and asked about the trainers and I suppose I'll always be one of the lads. last night i was out to see weller and paid £5-once a scal......

trans alpineo shoplifting...i remember the days ...some smartarse purchased a cross Europe train ticket..and realised that different stages of the ticket were simply added with a pink felt tip...buy the first section as far as france and add the rest...this is possibly why liverpool were so well supported across Europe and where the shell suit scoucers came from...continentals were not quite expecting hundreds/thousands of scallys helping themselves.....by far the best dressed casuals of the early 80's. fond memories of Runcorn station...9.22 to euston..persil promotion..coke did a decent one for a while aswell..it got so poular the train company cancelled half price returns from l'pool and runcorn so had to bunk as far as crewe before we could use our liberated persil /coke pull rings. before you all get on about criminal behaviour bare in mind that liverpool had unemployement before it became fashionable across the rest of the country and these young pioneers where just being industrious...

Unfortunately unemployment was part and parcel of the 80s so was it criminal behaviour or just getting by for my mind it was ducking and diving and getting by in life. As said in previous thread the 80s was a time in my life that I found my feet and started to look beyond the hum drum for me the designer gear was all part of this process and nothing felt better dressed up to the nines in some of the best gear around go to a game. The buzz you got on a Saturday was like a drug you needed your fix, there you where sat on a train pulling into another town not knowing what was going to meet you, is there a mod waiting for you. Talk to lads that where around at the time and they will all tell you it was a time the will never be recaptured. The casual scene is no way like it was first like when it broke in the 80s but if you where involved in the scene then part of you will always be part of the scene.olrad wrote:trans alpineo shoplifting...i remember the days ...some smartarse purchased a cross Europe train ticket..and realised that different stages of the ticket were simply added with a pink felt tip...buy the first section as far as france and add the rest...this is possibly why liverpool were so well supported across Europe and where the shell suit scoucers came from...continentals were not quite expecting hundreds/thousands of scallys helping themselves.....by far the best dressed casuals of the early 80's. fond memories of Runcorn station...9.22 to euston..persil promotion..coke did a decent one for a while aswell..it got so poular the train company cancelled half price returns from l'pool and runcorn so had to bunk as far as crewe before we could use our liberated persil /coke pull rings. before you all get on about criminal behaviour bare in mind that liverpool had unemployement before it became fashionable across the rest of the country and these young pioneers where just being industrious...

My "Ordinary to Chelsea" t shirt always gets comments when I give it an airing. Steady on Olrad (how are you?) you'll have loads of replies about stolen hubcaps! Funny how we can have attacks on the monarchy, high street windows and phone booths smashed, police officers injured, snooker balls, lumps of metal and sticks thrown and fires lit in the street-a few arrests. If that was football fans there would be banning orders, passport removal...interesting. Back in the day rucks went on all the time and everyone just went away and got on with it-a changed world.
