New Tame Impala single is very, very good. Their first record, Innerspeaker, from the other year is excellent.

Also, have any of you heard of Carlisle's The Lucid Dream? They keep putting out some great singles. As an example:

Alt-J were on the Radio 1 Live Lounge this morning. They seem to be flavour of the month on there at the moment - I've only just started re-listening to Radio 1 in the office and they are getting a fair bit of air-play.

Yes - she was knocked off her bike in the early 00s.

Funny how with Stereolab and Broadcast - two bands I love that who, in their own way, both had a take on 'retro 60's futurism' and soundtrack sounds lost female lead singers tragically early:

Fair play to them! What song? Does this make us hipster for getting onto them early? I can't remember how it works.

Tessellate.

I didn't hear what song they covered in the LL yesterday, but since we switched the office radio to Radio1 on Monday I've heard it half a dozen times. Chris Moyles thought it was Lana Del Rey's brother, which I guess I can hear from that song but not the album as a whole.

Caught Alt-J at T in the Park, was pretty impressed. I'll catch them again at Leeds fest, definitely one to watch out for.

Haven't read the entire thread , so apologies if this guy's been mentioned, but i'd keep an eye out for Jake Bugg, the lad really seems a talent. Sort of stipped-back country tunes, really accessible. Give " Lightning Bolt" a try.

In 90's era female-fronted bands who's lead singer is still alive news; Saint Etienne brought a new album out recently. S'alright.

An unfortunate turn of phrase I used there, admittedly.

Seen as though we're a couple of weeks past the halfway point... what's everyone's tunes of 2012 so far?

I'd go for...

Chairlift - Met Before
http://www.chairlifted.com/metbefore/

Alt-J - Dissolve Me
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_VSixF6DaY

Yeasayer - Henrietta
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vo4rbhR_vsk

...wanted to do more than top 3 but you can only post 3 links

A mate offered me a free ticket and backstage pass to a Yeasayer gig last week. I turned it down as don't know them and was playing football. Did I make a mistake?

They met the band and got backstage passes for Latitude, so yes, I probably did.

If you like the Macc Lads, here is the Geordie version - Shitswarm - surprisingly good.

One track applicable to many on here

And download the album for nowt here

Sadly they appear to be defunct...

Yeah, I've not got it yet, but I do love St. Etienne and Sarah Cracknell in equal measure.

Yeah I really like Yeasayer, deffo worth a try. Was this the thing in a pub in Islington? I'm on their mailing list and got an email about it and then was a douche and completely forgot about it, would have been great. I'd say you missed out, but to be fair I've taken a punt on tickets to bands I've never heard of and suffered through some right cack so it can go either way!

I was listening to 4 old blokes playing a bongo drum, electric banjo thing, a huge horn and what seemed a metal tea pot on Tuesday night.

It was strangely hypnotic but I got right into it.

You want madness then go to Marrakech!

Fatty, me and the other half are thinking of going to Marrakech in August. Where are you staying? We're looking at some place called Albatross Gardens at the moment.
