Listening to M83 at the moment, the album 'hurry up, we're dreaming' in particular.

Just run into The Smiths and This Charming Man being used as the soundtrack to some clips of Gazza at his best... some great comments there.

Re: The 'what music I'm listening to at the moment' thread
A few decent new albums I've been listening to lately...
Foals - Holy Fire. Probably the album I've enjoyed most so far this year, some great tunes (e.g. Bad Habit - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBjtHINXmoY )
Local Natives - Hummingbird. Trendy California folky band on their second album, well worth a look (Heavy Feet - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h2zWfxW60z0 )
Loving the new David Bowie. One of those albums that I wanted to like anyway, but it's genuinely very good. Same goes for My Bloody Valentine - MBV; was really looking forward/intrigued about it and definitely didn't disappoint.
Looking forward to The National's new one in May. One of the best bands of the last decade and they've got better and better with every new record they put out, so this should hopefully be a bit special.

Good call. Big big fan of M83. Although kind of thought HUWD could have been about 10 tracks lighter and I've liked it as much? Didn't need to be strung over two discs. Totally agree regarding the length of HUWD, whilst there are no real 'bad' tracks per se, they had the opportunity of making a shorter, excellent record as opposed to a long, very good one.fat tony wrote:Good call. Do you have any recommendations for other shoe gaze/nu gaze bands or records I should be checking out? It's a genre I've just started getting into, haven't really listened to anything like it since I was into Sonic Youth back in the day!
I'm also worryingly getting into country music too, not quite sure what's happening to me.

I stumbled into Blue Grass a few years ago and especially Hayseed Dixie, never looked back, in fact just booked tickets for a gig @ Holmfirth in June to see them for the 4th time, damn fine drinking music and worth checking out.Jazz Maverick wrote: I'm also worryingly getting into country music too, not quite sure what's happening to me.

Jake Bugg, The Vaccines... Seen them both live recently, both were bang on! Palma Violets are my flavour of the month at the minute.

Saw Jake Bugg in early 2011 for the first time playing to no more than 40 people. Next month I'll be seeing him support the Stone Roses, at Glasgow Green to 50,000!I Wanna Be Adored wrote:Jake Bugg, The Vaccines... Seen them both live recently, both were bang on! Doesn't get any bigger than supporting the Roses for the lad! On the subject of the Roses I'm going to see them at Finsbury Park with Johnny Marr confirmed as support act

Really like this song by country guy Glenn Campbell called "A Better place" on the Ghost on canvas album. BIt 50-50 about his early Honky Tonk stuff but this recent stuff I really like.
stumbled into this by a band called Passenger which I love

GG Allin - Bite It You Scum
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QMSWRT6ynhs
Live version taken from the documentary on the band Hated: GG Allin and the Murder Junkies
In this clip GG as usual get's naked, shits on stage and eats it before smearing it over himself and throwing it and the surrounding crowd.
Great song mind, for those interested in the documentary see it here:

My Bloody Valentine were probably the main shoe gaze outfit in the 90's so worth giving MBV a go which is their comeback album after about 20 years. They're not too much like Sonic Youth though - if you prefer them, there seems to be a lot of dreamy/distortion pedal rock bands around at the moment. New Deerhunter album called Monomania is a good one. Plus all their recent records, the main guy has another project called Lotus Plaza worth a look as well (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyemwVgw9cY). Also I'm still listening to Wild Nothing - Nocturne (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TlYekxPx2G4) from last year which is excellent.

Bloody hell, had forgotten all bout MBV, listened to them too quite a bit back int'day. My mate was a huge fan of them and we used to argue the relative merits of Sonic Youth and MBV for hours on end, like the pair of loser-ish virgins we were.fat tony wrote:Jazz Maverick wrote:

Will check out their comeback record and the others you mention, once I get over this country obsession I'm going through.

Going way back here, but as I got the recommendation on here, I'm off to see Alt J tonight.

Liking the new Daft Punk album, although not as blown away as I was hoping. It's incredibly well produced which probably elevates quite a few incidental/average tunes into sounding great. Enjoying the Nile Rogers funk/disco nods running through it, but would prefer a few more balls-out dancefloor tracks like 'Contact' at the end.
New Vampire Weekend record is well worth a look. Maybe not the trendiest band but I think they're great and have put out 3 quality albums now. Unbelievers - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2b1GgT07aes / Diane Young - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mX46e4GtlXM

How was it? Guessing this was Brixton - a mate from work said they were really good, although not the most charismatic (not that they need to be imo). I've never seen Alt-J live but looking to go to Latitude so hopefully catch them there.Spyman wrote:Going way back here, but as I got the recommendation on here, I'm off to see Alt J tonight.

They were very good. Maybe not the most charismatic, but as you say, that doesn't really matter to me. Musically they were excellent, vocally excellent - once they build up more of a back-catalogue they'll be a great band.
Not heard the new Vampire Weekend album. Really liked the first, never really got in to the second properly though.
I also like the new Daft Punk and agree with your summary - very well produced and am looking forward to listening to it on my 5.1 system which I've not done yet.
