From my personal experience...

We spent quite a lot on a good photographer, and it was money down the drain. In this age of facebook and digital cameras, most of your guests will take pics and email them to you,and you'll have more pics than you know what to do with!
To be honest, while the official pictures were good, the best shots came from the guests.

If you know anyone who has a good camera/interest in photography, ask them to be your 'official' photographer. Save a lot of money! To be honest, we have barely looked at our wedding album since we got married anyway!

The advantage of having a professional wedding photographer is that he (or she) should also be directing your wedding - telling everyone where to stand so you get all the best shots. Our photographer did just that - without him I think everything would've been a shambles so it was well worth the investment.

My best advice is not to get married. It will only end in tears.

A cynical man Lawman3, very true but cynical, and certainly don't get photos done to act as a constant reminder when you fat, fifty, bald, divorced and lonely Sat with a can of super strength looking through the album on a Saturday night cause your to skint to go out due to the divorce settlement, otherwise have a great day.

That too. Remember, a woman should only be intelligent enough to understand that the TV programming you choose for her is for her own good.

Try Richard Jemison:

I used to work with him and he is an excellent photographer. He's even had some books published. I agree with other comments that a good photographer can help to make a wedding run smoothly.

Sounds similar to my wedding plans. Whereabouts are you having it?

25th May 2014 at headlam hall. All booked. Bank holiday weekend and we got the sunday which was slightly cheaper!

Got most things covered (well the missus has) but photographer and main honeymoon destination are the final 2 major points. No doubt in the future I will post a honeymoon suggestions thread as we struggling to pin a specific place down too.

Already got a short break to Paris lined up straight after the wedding but dont a proper one in the school holidays

I'd recommend Île de Ré - a hidden gem off the west coast of France - as a honeymoon destination, especially if you enjoy a bit of (gentle ;)) cycling & basically just fancy chilling out for a week.

They're always the right woman before you marry them. I got lucky myself - but I've heard plenty of stories about them changing as soon as they're "Mrs" and have banged out a kid or two. Once they've nested, and got their sprogs, no need for anymore dirty stuff, know what I mean? That seems to be a recurring theme.

Paris is s*** - don't go.

Staggeringly overated, dirty and s***. Never visit a toilet in a cafe in Paris, unless you like s***. Best food in the world - is it fuck. Pukey, over elaborate, sloppy, s***. And Parisiens are wankers. Top notch wankers.

Yeah alot of people keep saying Paris isnt really worth going to. Problem is the missus has her heart set on it plus the "mini moon" to Paris is being paid for by my parents (which is very generous of them).

4-5 days in Paris shouldnt be to bad I hope, trying to persuade her to come to a paris-st-german matach whilst we are there but thats not going down to well!
