England and hodgson

Post by princes town » Wed Sep 11, 2013 8:15 am

I'm not the greatest fan of Hodgson but I couldn't quite understand why so many people have been so negative about England's performance last night. A thoroughly professional albeit constrained performance based on a limited set of personnel. Yes, it is predictable, yes it was unambitious and yes it is rather tedious to observe but Hodgson has never really hidden his thinking. I actually thought Ukraine were a decent side with skill and pace but england's defensive game plan was rather good. While hodgson doesn't have that instinctive risk taking quality I like in a manager his plan A is usually well thought through. The lottery of tournament football will probably catch him out where you need to think on your feet but yesterday wasn't a tournament game.

It beats my own team's collapse to Serbia any day.
