The Ashes (again)

Post by comeondarlo » Wed Nov 20, 2013 11:32 pm

Anyone else staying up?

I reckon we'll win 2-1, this one will be drawn as there's bad weather on the way.

Can't seem to get excited this time, will hope for a 2-1 win also but I'm concerned about the bowling attack tbh

Very good first day, I still think it'll be a draw looking at the weather forecast.

Its good when you have a captain as dour as Alastair Cook to be able to rely on the opposition to supply all the motivation needed!

Trott on the way home!
Probably for the best (team wise) he looked clueless against Mitchell Johnson.
Hope he gets better and regains his place at a future date.

I'd put Root up to three, the replacement number six is more problematic.
I don't think there's much between Bairstow, Balance and Stokes.
I'd probably go for Bairstow, slightly more experience.

All is not lost, I still think we can win the series but it'll be tight!

Sad to see another cricketer struggle with Stress during the Ashes

Root to 3 and Stokes in to give another bowling option who does not bang it in, also explosive with the bat and can handle the short ball

Well after the let off this morning for the Aussies i'm afraid the Urn will not be coming home, simply not good enough and the Aussies look to be building another formidable team for the next few years to come, especially the middle order batting

I'm not so sure that's there's a big turn around.

I think their confidence is very high and our at a low ebb.

Still hope if we can draw this test and win the next two, I know I'm clutching!

Well there you go, what a shock!!

Well played to our young Durham lad, shame the rest could not have the same resolve and backbone.

Bet Onions is bouncing at not been given the opportunity, although they may bring him in for the next test, what a joke

Was there to see Stokesy get his maiden test century, his batting on day 4 of the test was the only highlight of my two weeks in Oz.

We have been totally outplayed in every facet of the game, our fielding at times has been woeful, Matt Prior's keeping at the WACA topped it off, was depressing at times.

Fair play to the Aussies they have hit us hard and deserve the 3-0 lead, I just hope we make a couple of subtle changes for the final two tests

I wonder if they were about to drop him and he's chucked his teddies.
Very strange but this tour has had a massive effect on the team for the short term future.

Swann a complete wanker? How do you get that then?

He was contracted for the tour, now there is nothing left to play for but pride he quits and does not stand with his team mates.

Word is he was told he was dropped so spat his dummy out.

A great spinner but as the portrayed public personality a tosser, big headed, egotistical and whinges - look at the whole drink drive episode.

Top it all he's a barcode......

I think there may be more retirements after the tour but at least the likes of Anderson, KP, Prior will wait till it's over not grab the headlines to get all the attention

Like I've just said to you on Twitter, I think you're being a bit naive about the entire situation.

I think it was no surprise that this will have been his last tour and I think the plan was to hopefully bow out on a high retaining the ashes in Australia. He was probably going to announce his retirement during the boxing day test, and then get a decent send off in the last test.

Unfortunately, it hasn't panned out like that so he's probably gone to Flower (who would have known about his retirement plans) and said, look what have I to gain? Swann hasn't been at his best, he can be home in time for Christmas to spend it with his young family and Flower gets the chance to blood some youngsters in the most intense environment in cricket and see how they cope.

If he was throwing his toys out the pram he'd just quit England cricket, instead he's quit it all. I expect to see him joining the Sky Sports team in the near future. Possible replacement for Bumble?

Without a doubt he will have a career in TV, maybe we will get another retirement on each of the next 2 tests

Have you heard something about the other three?
I can see maybe one of them but not the three.
Jimmy does looked totally pissed off at the moment and tbh the Aussies have got to them all (apart from Cook, Broad, Stokes and Root IMO).

I reckon Flower is more than likely going to go, interesting times ahead!

I don't think KP will go. He desperately wants to get a hundred in South Africa so I think he'll be around a while yet.

need to rebuild,Flower has gone as far with England.Swann for the last two years has struggled.Anderson history tells us he has never done well in Australia and has always struggled with the kookaburra ball. There is some good young talent to come into the team with Buttler and a good seamer boiler Harris at Middlesex.i am not worried about the future the players are there,if Flower goes the ECCB will have in intresting choice i would go for Jason Gillesipe at Yorkshire

Actually I've been thinking about this today.

England and The Aussies need wholesale changes.
Harris, Siddle and Johnson are at the end of their careers, as is Watson and Haddin.
Rodgers isn't good enough and Clarke has a bad back.

In 18 mths time both sides will be unrecognisable!

Borthwick & Tredwell called up

Borthwick landed this morning and may play in Boxing Day test, Tredwell arrives for other test.

Great news for Scotty, his batting is up to the job but is his bowling, to many lose long hops last season.

Shame Onions is not called up also

I think if Onions was called up it would be admitting the selectors have got it wrong....which they have
Its the end of an era for this current team - it was one tour too far for some of
them and I dont think their heart was in it.
Time to build a new team - and I think Flower should go as well - we have got Ashley Giles waiting in the wings and its his time now to help Cook build a new team

Very much agree, I see Mark Wood has been called up for the Lions today also for the Sri Lanka tour, don't think Durham will have many players left come April at this rate

I can see most of the team shortly being from Durham or Yorkshire!

As an aside I hope Prior keeps his place cos I'm not sure Jonny B is a good enough keeper.
