Thought's on this?EveningGazette wrote:Kate Chisholm says in letter to parents and carers that some people are wearing slippers as they escort youngsters.
A headteacher has written to parents to request that they do not wear pyjamas and slippers to take children to and from school.
Skerne Park Primary School headteacher Kate Chisholm has written to parents and carers of youngsters at Skerne Park Primary School in Darlington .
Her letter states that she has "noticed an increasing tendency for parents to escort children while still wearing their pyjamas and, on occasion, even slippers".
The teacher requests that parents take the time to dress appropriately in day wear which is suitable for the weather conditions.
Ms Chisholm adds that it is important to set a good example to pupils about what is appropriate.
Speaking to the Gazette today, she explained: "We want the very best for our children and we do feel that parents turning up in their pyjamas to bring their children to school or for school meetings are setting a bad example to our children.
"It is not a judgement on the parents - who they are or how they are - we just feel we get the children to come in uniform because we like to be role models and that parents should be the same."
The headteacher added: "We have had a lot of positive reaction - one parent said it was an amazing letter.
"I would just say that it is a core number of parents - generally the parents of our school are very supportive and are fantastic.
"It is just a small minority turning up in their pyjamas - but that is still too many in my eyes."
Skerne Park parent Phil Naylor told the Gazette: "I'm all for it myself the school are doing right by the kids and trying to show them the right path.
"There should be a law against it. People have a lack of self respect to not even get dressed on a morning."

Re: PJ's on the School Run
Plain and simple it's wrong. There are far too many people like this and they are setting a terrible example to their own children.
Re: PJ's on the School Run
I'm not entirely sure how it's setting a bad example if the parents work nights, or are ill or any other reason. As long as their kid is in uniform, on time and is encouraged to be at school.
Also, if parents decide to wear pj's to drop the kids off are the school going to exclude the kids? It really just seems a pointless exercise, and is likely to piss off those that do wear them.

Re: PJ's on the School Run
If you work nights then presumably you could get ready for bed when you are going to bed, not when you are taking the kids to school.
It suggests to kids that it's fine to be lazy & take the easy option if you ask me. And it looks stupid - have some dignity!

I don't. I'm at work way before my kid goes to school. I was just giving reasons. But that said. I used to work nights and my shift finished at 4am.
My main point really is what the school actually is trying to achieve as surely a letter home really is unlikely to influence someone who does this?

The main point is they dont want a 'ragger' image, which PJ's outdoors clear is.
This is indefensible.

Yup. But what does it achieve. They can't enforce, and if you are the pj brigade a letter from the school is more likely to make you dig your heels inBUSHEAD wrote:The main point is they dont want a 'ragger' image, which PJ's outdoors clear is.

Re: PJ's on the School Run
I think she was making a point about "standards" which fits in with the general need to bring positive change to the school as a whole.
Parents and their behaviour do have a tremendous impact on how their children develop.
Not sure if she chose the right way to raise it, and I agree enforcement is impossible.
I think she should advise all parents to wear a darlo football kit to escort their children to school

Talk about overkill, as the story is now reported on the national news and in national papers. These people are making Darlo look like a right dump full of scroungers. Good on the headteacher making a stand.

People need some self respect. Taking your kids to school is PJ's just simply sets a bad example. Grown adults really shouldn't need to be told should they.

OK it's not a great look, but seriously. Nightwear? January? County Durham?

This all started with that piano player from The Boomtown Rats (Johnny Fingers ??) turning up at Top Of The Pops in his pyjamas - it's all been downhill since then.

As an educator, but the same applies to any profession, you should fight the battles that make a difference.
I couldn't care less what the parents are wearing, but I do want the kids to be on time and dressed appropriately for school.
