Notwithstanding the story, The Independent is an atrocious cyber-rag.

It is so far left it makes the Daily Mail appear left of centre.

The story was written by Rob Merrick - formerly of the Northern Echo.

Well known as a marxist during his time in the North East.

No surprise he ended up at the inappropriately-titled Independent.
