Supporting DARLO might be a heartache but it's a heartache I chose to have.

The xx album was pretty good too but doesn't make my top 5

1- Tubelord - Our first American friends
2- Patrick Wolf - The bachelor
3- Deadmau5 - For lack a better name
4- Boat - Setting the paces
5- Johnny Foreigner - Grace and the bigger picture

I should also add that the bess jazz album is
Alex Grenier - Boomerang fantastic, this guy got me into jazz, plus Sunn Ra

Thought none have even come close to Ian Brown's new album this year, brilliant.

Surprise of the year for me, for sure. Didn't like the debut album (despite the Lord Screaming Sutch/Joe Meek/60s garage nods) and saw them supporting The Sonics in 2008 and they were terrible. So when I heard the second record was going more down the Psychedelic Furs/Buahaus/80s goth route I wasn't expecting much at all.

Bought it for the missus, who loves them, and it blew me away. Really strong record, but the last track Sea Within A Sea (sounds a bit like Can...) is a real belter:

Haven't listened to a great amount of stuff from this year. Been busy delving into the past music wise buying loads of 60s / 70s stuff. However top albums from this year for me are:

Working on a Dream - Bruce Springsteen
West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum - Kasabian
Man From Another Time - Seasick Steve
Humbug - The Arctic Monkeys

I also want to put Reverend and the Makers - A French Kiss In The Chaos on my list but I know I shouldn't because it only has a handful of decent tracks on it but I do like the decent ones on the album. I do have a few things which I reckon could make an appearance to complete my list but haven't listened to them yet. They include:

Together Through Life - Bob Dylan
Lungs - Florence and the Machine
The Resistance - Muse

Brilliant album, the first track is perfect, now teenage girls have stopped swooning over them they can get on with what they do best creating weird music.

I saw these live last year, supporting someone (I have a feeling it was Good Charlotte). I thought they were shite. But have to agree this album is pretty good. They've either come a hell of a long way since I saw them, or I just saw them on a bad day!

I saw them on friday, what i could barely hear due to the garbage acoustics in the venue sounded pretty damn awesome, but they're probably in my top 5 bands of all time so im being bias

I was exactly the same. Had them down as just another Hoxton skinny jeans and haircut McIndie band after the first and needed some persuading to give this record a try. As it turned out I had it on non-stop for a month and it got me digging out some old Kraut-rock, quality stuff.
