Co-op worker accidently paid £1.4 million

Post by TinShedDarloFan » Wed Dec 16, 2009 10:30 am

After tax and all the rest was taken off £800,000 was credited to his account, he then informed his bosses of the mistake, in reward for coughing up the mistake of £1.4m they gave him a crate of budweiser.

What a kick in the teeth, £800,000 in your bank account to a crate of budweiser

I know what you mean.

They could have at least given him a decent crate of beer.

He should have transferred the money into a savings account, and then written to them asking how he should pay it back (using a 2nd class stamp). Then at least he would gain some interest while the re-payment was sorted out.

The guy was called Stephen Foster, well I suppose he's got a familiy to feed

I liked the quote from the spokesman

"Coming as it does just before Christmas it's the kind of act that renews your faith in human nature"

Makes it sound like they'd have never realised the mistake and suffered terribly unless he'd told them.

You'd think they'd give him something drinkable rather than that tastless horse-piss?

[They are offering him a Christmas bonus, btw. It's quite possible that the "case of Bud" formed the limit of what his own store manager was able to authorise as a "thank you" gift, and informed his bosses and bumped this tale up the line]
