O/T Broaband problems - IE 8 or Virgin Media size L??

I downloaded the IE 8 browser and upgraded my Virgin Media Broadband to size L in September and ever since then my internet performance has been shocking. It won't stream videos without sticking etc. When I had size M broadband and IE 7, it was virtually problem free.

Has anyone else had a problem with and IE 8 / Virgin Media size L combination?

I can't uninstall IE 8 without removing XP Service Pack 3. I don't want to do that, as I had problems getting SP3 on.

Would upgrading to size XL Broadband solve it? Anyone know much XL costs?

Do other browsers work better with size L? Firefox etc?

Any suggestions would be welcome, as the current situation is a nightmare. Cheers.

I've got Firefox it works a lot faster for me than the original Internet Explorer.

As Andy says, Firefox is a faster alternative but remember to keep it updated.

Another fast alternative you could try is Google Chrome.

I use firefox but i heard chrome is amazing, also opara is really good too.

Have to say I don't really have any problems at all with it. i would ping your connection and see what speed your getting. sometimes I did get a low connection, I turned off the power to the modem, left it for a minute and plugged it back in. it booted up, reset itself and it was flying again.

Have run the tests and the results are 6125 Kbps for download (which is above average) and 144Kbps for upload (which is low).

Have tried cable modem re-boots before and it doesn't seem to solve it.

Is the slow upload speed something to do with the browsing and streaming problems? If so, how can I fix it?

i get 4600kps for the download and 473 for the upload. possibly lose a bit because i am wireless on the laptop at the mo, but my upload is considerably more than yours. not a great technophobe so maybe somebody else with more knowledge could chip in.

Yeah I use Opera too, it's very good. Can't go wrong with Firefox either.

Don't know if yours is very good or mine is crap, but I can only get 1160Kbps download and 224 Kbps Upload. Thought it was ok 'til I saw yours. (Cue sexual inuendo joke).

Sorry my mistake, only just realised we had such a forum even though it must have been staring me in the face. Will take note for future.

That being said, how come I can still see it in the main forum even though its been moved?

because when i moved it I left a 'shadow' on the main forum so users and yourself didn't think it had been deleted and could see that it had been moved, the shadow just highlights it has been moved and when clicked it brings you here. If I just moved it to here then you may have thought it had gone completely.

Am using Firefox now, which is a great browser, but still have the problem which I believe is due to the fact that I have my original cable modem from 2001, which obviously can't cope with the increased speed. Am going to ask Virgin for a new one.
