Dave the rocket Ryding
Just wow, learnt to ski on a plastic slope at Pendle near Burnley and yesterday in a world cup slalom in Italy he was 27th after the first run. He had the fastest run in the second run and moved up to 4th spot and only a fraction of a second off a podium place. Absolutely incredible and it goes to show that as a country we can occasionally punch well above our weight and produce a stunning result.

There's even an article on the BBC website about the achievement.

Great to see him come second in a parallel world cup slalom in Oslo yesterday. Surely it's only a question of time before he wins a world cup race.

Thanks Lillian for your useless intervention!!
Good to see Dave Ryding picked up an 8th spot in yesterday's slalom in Wengen.

Wow so close & yet so far in the first World Cup Slalom at Levi yesterday. Despite starting the first run as the 14th starter, he managed the 2nd fastest run & he was only 0.35 seconds behind the fastest skier of the first run. Skiing 2nd last in the second run, he was 0.75 seconds faster, but came out of the course. Great effort & I'm certain he will deliver the first win for a British skier in a World Cup race this year.Darlo_Pete wrote: ↑Mon Jan 21, 2019 12:53 pmThanks Lillian for your useless intervention!!![]()

Great to see that Dave came joint 7th on Wednesday night in Italy. Hopefully he'll get a great draw on Sunday in Switzerland.

Great to see Dave Ryding came from 8th after the first run, to finish 3rd & only 0.01 of a second from coming second. Fantastic display & a great credit to British Skiing, especially when we don't have the mountains to train on.

Re: Dave the rocket Ryding
It was great to see Dave Ryding got a mention on the BBC news last Sunday evening. He did well again today skiing from 15the after the first run, up to 7th after the second run.
Re: Dave the rocket Ryding
I used to watch a lot of skiing but not done so for years. I saw the last 5-6 runs on I think it was Euro sport in midweek and he finished 3rd. Had to wait in 3rd place quite a while but last 2 down both messed up.
No idea where or when it was,(They said it was his first podium of the season if that helps). But always good to see a Brit doing well.

Even more amazing is that he's an Englishman. Traditionally our best skiers have nearly always come from Scotland. Used to take my kids to a summer race series at Rossendale Ski slope over in Lancashire & I'm pretty certain that Dave Ryding used to take part.
