Memories of our late Queen

Post by Darlo_Pete » Fri Sep 09, 2022 7:03 am

It was terrible news yesterday evening and at times like this footie has to take a back seat.

I've only seen the Queen on two occasions.

I was outside St. Pauls Cathedral when Charles married Diana and when she visited in 2002 for her Golden Jubilee. I'll always remember her vivid yellow outfit and the incredible reception she got in Darlington. I believe she commented afterwards about the fantastic crowds in Darlington.

Ma'am you will be sadly missed by many and you will never be forgotten. RIP

I travelled down to London last Sunday for the state funeral the following day. I ended up with a good spot on the Mall close to Clarence House.

Without a doubt the most surreal thirty-six hours of my life. Tough to stand in the same spot for pretty much eighteen hours but it was a once-in-a-lifetime occasion and a chance to show my respects to an amazing human being.

The only disappointing moment for me was so many people filming the procession on their mobile phones instead of taking in the moment, and in particular, one lady who felt it was appropriate to record the coffin passing with a selfie
Come on Darlo!
