Happy New Decade!
A very happy new year and indeed decade to you and yours, whoever you may be!
I don't care what I have to do. I want to be at Jools's Hootenanny next year. I'll be the sodding Polar Bear if that's what it takes.

Happy New Year everybody, I'm sober as I'm driving to Fleetwood in a few hours time!! Christ I hope 2011 is better than 2010 has been for me.
Re: Happy New Decade!
Happy new year!
Think the new decade might have started last year though. Unless the last one (2000-2010) had 11 years in it

Re: Happy New Decade!
I agree BQ, bit of Ska/Reggae to finish off the year from Toots and Rico was a quality touch. very disappointed that Daltrey didn't get another tune (would have modestly accepted Baba O Reilly), Minogue is beautiful, bollocks to her music though.BishopQuaker wrote:A very happy new year and indeed decade to you and yours, whoever you may be!

That robot was fucking mint.
All in all - one massive party. However, is it really filmed live?

Re: Happy New Decade!
It doesn't quite work like that - there was no year zero so the first year of any decade is always a 1.fat tony wrote:Happy new year!

I think Hootenanny is filmed in about October. As for the new decade, I always assumed it was 0-9, then it changed. Anyway it doesn't really matter.BishopQuaker wrote:A However, is it really filmed live?

And it does - you're on extraordinarily dodgy ground theologically speaking if you aver there's ever been an "AD 0"

Re: Happy New Decade!
Regardless of history and theology, 1970 wasn't in the 60s, 1980 wasn't in the 70s and 1990 wasn't in the 80s, therefore 2010 wasn't in the 00s and we're already 12 months in to the 10s.
Not interested in the calendar argument, culturally decades run (for example) from Jan 1st 1990 to Dec 31st 1999, then a new decade starts.
Though there is the argument that the 60s, for example, started sometime in 1964 and ended very loosely in the early-to-mid 70s, but that's a different thread completely!

Re: Happy New Decade!
Any ten year period is a decade so BQ is technically correct.

Re: Happy New Decade!
At the end of the day we're in 2011. If you're going to start get picky over which decade we're in then you clearly have not a lot going for you in life.grytters wrote:Then you were wrong.Darlogramps wrote:I think Hootenanny is filmed in about October. Re: Happy New Decade!
There had to be a year zero, because year 1 is 1 year after Jesus was born. 1 year.Mr_Tibbs wrote:It doesn't quite work like that - there was no year zero so the first year of any decade is always a 1.fat tony wrote:Happy new year!

The decade is 2000-2009, 2010-2019, 2020-2029 etc

Re: Happy New Decade!
Nope. AD = "year of our lord" not "years after our lord was born", so the first year of Jesus' life would have been 1AD as opposed to 0AD.Quakerz wrote:There had to be a year zero, because year 1 is 1 year after Jesus was born. 1 year.Mr_Tibbs wrote:It doesn't quite work like that - there was no year zero so the first year of any decade is always a 1.fat tony wrote:Happy new year!

Re: Happy New Decade!
LOL, I went to a shiit school, I specifically remember a teacher saying Anno Domini meant "after Christ" meaning AD 1 was one year after he was born.
Yet looking it up gives me the year of our lord answer. Ho hum.
