Songs inspired by Footballers
In an idle moment, I thought I could come up with a "Footballers in Song XI" but I'm struggling. Here's what I got so far:
God's Footballer - Billy Bragg. About Peter Knowles (Cyril's brother) who gave up playing for Wolves to become a Jehovah's witness.
The Man Don't Give a Fuck - Super Furry Animals. About Cardiff player Robin Friday.
Give Him a Ball and a Yard of Grass - Sultans of Ping FC. Inspired by Nigel Clough.
Song For Len Shackleton - Chumbawamba. Inspired by, er, Len Shackleton, clown prince.
Santa Maradona - Mano Negro. About a short-arsed, Argentinian cheat.
Mission from Todd - Shrug. Middlesbrough's finest sing about both Colin Todd and Tony Mowbray (they also released a song entitled Archie Stephen's Birthday Party).
Er, that's it. Any other suggestions?

Pretty sure on Football Focus there was a song played about Gordon Strachan. A George Best song sound familiar as well but I might be completely making that up...Finally was there a song about Kenny Dalglish as well again just sounds familiar!

The Hitchers - Strachan found it!

Just found Belfast Boy by Don Fardon - that's probably the one about George Best.
Re: Songs inspired by Footballers
My brilliant feat by Colin Hay was about George Best.

Another George Best one here "For those who love to live" by Thin Lizzy, Phil Lynott was a Man U fan.
"You've got to give a little love
To those who love to live
You've got to take a little hate
From those who have to wait"

"Nice One Cyril" by the Cockerel Chorus. Extremely EXTRE-E-E-MELY sad, but I used to have their album when I was a nipper: The Cockerel Chorus Party Sing-a-long
My brother (a Spurs fan) had the single. The B-side was "Cyril Marches On".

Similarly, as a kid I used to love Willie's Reggae by The Ray Dales Band, which was about Willie Maddren. To my eternal shame, I was a Boro fan in my formative years.

Bob Wilson - Anchorman by Half Man Half Biscuit.
Ive been to Kent, Gwent, Senegal
Ive even been to look for Jim Rosenthal
Found him on his knees at the Wailing Wall crying
Bob Wilson, Anchorman.

Brad Friedel
Romeo Zondervan
Lev Yashin

Hammersmith End's 'Ode to Luís Boa Morte' (covered later by Artful Dodger and Craig David) is one of my personal favourites.

Apparently Dirty by Christina Aguilera was inspired by several Hebburn players.
