Major signing
Re: Major signing
But they aren't major .... And they like it in the NL .... That's why they are at Spennymoor. We have moved on now. Most NL players we wanted and who wanted to move up with us last season, we have now.
Re: Major signing
Sweeping statement, I certainly don't know that all Spenny players want to stay in the NL.AIDO wrote:But they aren't major .... And they like it in the NL .... That's why they are at Spennymoor. We couldn't have afforded Cogdon last summer.

Re: Major signing
Given that most of the best players in the Northern League have been under contract and therefore not available to us I think this is a bizarre statement.AIDO wrote:But they aren't major .... How do you know Spennymoor's players don't want to play at a higher level?
Or the top players at any of the best teams in the league?
Re: Major signing
Most of Spennymoor's players were on 2 year contracts.
2 years due to expire at the end of their 5 year plan so just before promotion. If you want to move higher you don't sign a contract that effective consigns you to the NL for 2 years.

Re: Major signing
2 years ago playing for Darlo would have been a pipe dream for Spenny players.
I think 'major signing' will be for the level. I don't think it will shake the world of football.

Re: Major signing
Well obviously! It's not going to be a released Premier League player for goodness sake, but as MG is using the word 'major' I'd hazard a guess it's a player most of us have heard of, who's been playing at a higher level for most of his career, maybe looking at a last year or two before getting into a managerial or back-room staff appointment.Ingleby wrote:2 years ago playing for Darlo would have been a pipe dream for Spenny players.

Re: Major signing
Totally agree with Ingleby. Snatching a few of Spenny's top players would be a major coup. We shouldn't lose sight of realistic expectations just because Martin Gray has used the word "major".

Re: Major signing
Duke on NLZ posted this, he knows his s*** and has been bang on about things like this before:
Hunter/Robinson/Peacock?Darlo signings will be a defender from Shildon, midfielder from Whitley and a winger from Spennymoor (an ex player)
Re: Major signing
Major signing has to be Robbo surely. Spenny winger will be Chris Moore

Doesn't Peacock struggle to be available for a few matches? Heard midweeks could be difficult for him. Might be wrong though!Darlofan97 wrote:Duke on NLZ posted this, he knows his s*** and has been bang on about things like this before:

You're bang on Loan_Star. It'll probably be Moore. Totally forgot about him.

Re: Major signing
It's been confirmed on twitter hat the 3 players are: Hunter (Shildon) Robinson (Whitley Bay) and Chris Moore (Spennymoor)
Paul Robinson is a fantastic signing, he's been targeted by a lot of clubs in the past and Spennymoor have been after him the past few seasons so it's great to have him at he club.
He was the stand out player for Whitley Bay over he 2 games against us.
It's also great to see Chris Moore back with us and he still has a lot of pace and plenty of tricks. Stephen Thompson and Chris Moore on the wings looks an exciting prospect.

Re: Major signing
So obvious that people were saying Spenny players couldn't be 'major' cos their NL. Ok then.

Re: Major signing
If Robinson does sign I wouldn't be surprised if Gott drops back to right back which would alleviate the departure of Harrison.

Excellent news about the other two though.

Has he played much for Spenny?
Is Emms not just as good?

Re: Major signing
So who is the major signing in MG's eyes, Moore?
I wonder if Spenny not getting promotion has caused his leaving...... thought he was contracted so I wonder if we have paid a wedge out.
Last thought is where does leave Nicholls, third choice now behind Moore then Emms

I think Nicholls might be going, he ended up a little bit-part at the back end of last season anyway.Bogratsteve wrote:So who is the major signing in MG's eyes, Moore?

I reckon Robinson is the "major" signing. He was probably the one that got away last season. Constantly linked but nothing came of it.

I agree, Robinson is a class act.

Re: Major signing
I don't understand that decription. It feels a little out of date. He has 108 appearances for Shildon, yet his last competitive game was against Red Star Belgrade. Judging by the literacy skills Malvern probably cobbled it together.
He was on a scholarship in America and won a trial in the MLS in one sentence yet he was pro in the States in another.

Re: Major signing
Not sure why I am shocked but if we have signed those 3 so quickly I am quite shocked.
All sounds very good and no messing around by Gray.
