Re: Ron Greener
A great servant of the club, at a time when players were almost servants. Many great memories from my childhood. A model professional. A certainty for the Quaker's hall of Fame.

Re: Ron Greener
Sad news. Lovely, modest man. Went to his house with Ray Simpson to talk to Ron and Brian Henderson for the Farewell To Feethams book. It was a pleasure to chat to them.

Re: Ron Greener
RIP - had a decent innings. Proper Darlo legend. Thoughts to his family and friends.
Re: Ron Greener
THE Man Mountain.
I had the pleasure of not only watching him play, I had the honour of playing against him on several occasions.
Not the tallest of centre halves but his positioning & timing were his biggest assets, gave me the best tip ever about timing a jump to head the ball.
I doubt if his games played for Darlo will ever be broken... 490 first team games
In his later years it was a privilege to be in in his company many times in the Ron Greener Suite...
Always a gentleman & certainly a true Darlo legend

Very sad to hear he's gone.
Only spoke to him a handful of times but when I did he was an absolute gentleman.

Re: Ron Greener
Echo everyone's sentiments, When the word legend is bandied about in todays era most don't even understand what the kind of service the elder generation gave to the sport and what they did and got paid in relation to todays professionals. A true gent and DARLO LEGEND. Rip Ron the world is a sadder place without you in it

Re: Ron Greener
It can't be said enough, a real legend and a true gentleman who will never be forgotten
Re: Ron Greener
I like the idea of a minutes silence. The minutes applause is getting old hat now and it would be a nice change to revert to the silence in honour of Ron.
Re: Ron Greener
I never saw him play (although I used to deliver his milk in Blackwell!), but there's no doubting he is someone the club should be immensely proud to be associated with.

Re: Ron Greener
I never had the pleasure of seeing Ron play for the black and whites, but he was always very friendly on the odd occasion I saw him at the Arena and Heritage Park. I remember taking my dad to see a home game just before he passed away at HP and Ron Greener was a lovely gentleman and made my dad feel at home as they had a good chat. Ron I don't think your appearance record will ever go, unless Whitey decides to carry on playing!! It would be very fitting to have a minutes silence tonight, like Robbo I don't like a minutes applause either. RIP Ron and condolences to all his family.

Through and through, my hero as a kid. RIP. A true legend.
Re: Ron Greener
Knowing Ron as I did, I am sure the 1 minutes applause to celebrate his life would have been preferred...

Re: Ron Greener
The minutes silence was impeccably observed and it was far more poignant than a minutes applause, in my opinion.

Re: Ron Greener
Does it matter? For me, it's the gesture of commemorating his life that is important. Whether that's through a silence or applause doesn't really matter.footifan wrote:Knowing Ron as I did, I am sure the 1 minutes applause to celebrate his life would have been preferred...
Re: Ron Greener
His family stated they would prefer a minutes silence, as has been stated, impeccably observed.
Re: Ron Greener
Well if that is what the family wanted fair does & well done to the crowd for doing it well... no reason why they shouldn't.
I always think the silence thing is always a little sad... I want to be remembered with lots of laughter & noise... Always look on the bright side of life is already planned
