Dale Hopson
Dale Hopson
After a season where he won most of the player awards, he has submitted a transfer request. Third time lucky or do you reckon Spennymoor will come in for him?
Re: Dale Hopson
I'd have thought Spennymoor would be the one he is most likely to go to.
Although don't rule out South Shields, that statement might say he wants to play higher but money talks, and they've shown in the last few years years that they have the resources to pull off a signing like this.

Re: Dale Hopson
Would love to see it happen. Alas, I think he's more likely to join $p£n¥moor.
To be fair, he could probably take his pick from any Gateshead, Hartlepool, York, Spennymoor, Harrogate.
Won't be many who'd turn him down.

Re: Dale Hopson
He couldn't get a game for us.
Re: Dale Hopson
Although Hopson has probably improved in the last couple of years I think Syers covers us well for attacking midfielders.
Re: Dale Hopson
Either he has moved up front or had a very good season. In excess of 30 goals in all comps is a hell of a return if he is still a midfielder.

Re: Dale Hopson
Definitely could like. Plays attacking midfield I believe so could play off Beck in a 4-4-1-1.Quakerz wrote:He couldn't get a game for us.
Would need Portas rather than Syers in CM with Turnbull, otherwise the midfield would be unbalanced.
But scoring 30 goals last season is a brilliant return and he looks far too good for the NPL. Could easily make the step up in my opinion.

Re: Dale Hopson
Thought he was by far their best player in both games against us, he is twice the player we had but we are overloaded with attacking midfielder so a great pity we probably cannot sign him.

I'd be more than happy to see him return, but I can't see it happening.
Re: Dale Hopson
Would be a good one, but i'd be surprised. Could he end up at York and come back to haunt us?

He didn't really haunt us at Whitby apart from scoringH1987 wrote:Would be a good one, but i'd be surprised. Could he end up at York and come back to haunt us?
Re: Dale Hopson
He scored both home and away against us. He's very much improved his game and I feel it'll be a massive loss to Whitby as at times he was the focal point of the team.HarrytheQuaker wrote:He didn't really haunt us at Whitby apart from scoringH1987 wrote:Would be a good one, but i'd be surprised. Not sure he'd fit in the team, plus I think he'd want to play every week

Re: Dale Hopson
Anyone who bagged 30 goals at Whitby's level would be welcome, but especially as he was one of our kids. An out & out striker or a more defensive midfielder may be more a likely signing though.

Re: Dale Hopson
IIRC, he'd been at Boro's academy but didn't get kept on at around 16 or so and Mick Tait picked him up and brought him to ours. Stayed with our kids for a year or two before getting his 1st team chance under Liddle. I'm sure the info's on the interweb somewhere, but I'm too idle to check but it was along those lines.
Alun's promise to the fans: “I’ll make sure I’ll bring players in that are value for money and I want players that want to play for Darlington Football Club, want to progress and move up the league and show the fans that passion.”

He's joined Blyth.

Re: Dale Hopson
His goal return is quite impressive if he was playing centre midfield for Whitby as reported in the article.

We will be playing at the arena again next season - fact.
Quakerz - if you actually attended games and spoke to people you might actually find our facts, rather than spreading s*** on this board.

9 were penalties though, although a 9/9 return on penalties is damn impressive!Spyman wrote:Its quite impressive if he was playing up front to be honest.lo36789 wrote:His goal return is quite impressive if he was playing centre midfield for Whitby as reported in the article.
Re: Dale Hopson
Wonder how much he cost them. Blyth have "splashed the cash", it cost them "a lot more than they wanted to pay", and they're even asking Hopson whether the transfer fee brings any pressure!
(Unless of course they're exaggerating in an attempt to get some publicity)
