Spennymoor ground developments
Spennymoor ground developments
Been reading the Echo about Spennymoor and their ground. In the article it states that their capacity is just over 2000, like HP was when we got promoted , which was lower than what I thought and is on Wikipedia, and that they're getting some resistance from locals about ground redevelopments that would make them eligible for promotion to the NLN. Anyone know any more about this (like our learned friend Spen). 2 questions obviously arise from this. Firstly, they'll have to get to 3,000 by March 31st or they'll be relegated, and 2ndly, without 500 seats by March then they won't be eligible for promotion. Brad Groves has already stated a few weeks ago that he won't necessarily bankroll this and will look for investment.

Re: Spennymoor ground developments
How many seats do they have in their stand, it must be close to 500?
Re: Spennymoor ground developments
About the same as us now Pete, I think.
Re: Spennymoor ground developments
Less than 250 apparently, about 238 or so I believe

Re: Spennymoor ground developments
Didn't we play there in front of about 2600 in the Northern League?

They completed work before March 31st to get to 250 I believe, obviously need another 250 by March 31st 2018.divas wrote:Less than 250 apparently, about 238 or so I believe
You can guarantee that Groves will complete the seats and anything else one way or another.
Re: Spennymoor ground developments
What about a ground share with us? They already take our old players

The local community are not happy about the Brewery Field developments, someone saying that it would be an eyesore and attract vermin

I think it's a given, that locals will object to any football ground development at nearly every club, so it comes as no surprise if the locals aren't happy. I guess as we have few locals near us, I wouldn't think there would be many objections to any proposed developments at BM.murtonquaker wrote:The local community are not happy about the Brewery Field developments, someone saying that it would be an eyesore and attract vermin

What vermin are they talking about though, the rodent kind or the few hundred who turn out there every other week

Their average attendance so far is 915, admittedly they have had some of the bigger clubs that will have swelled this, however for a small town of under 20,000 its a pretty impressive %

If you buy a house next to a football ground what do you expect??? It would be like someone buying a home next to a main road and then complaining if the traffic gets worse.
Additionally, the location they are planning the new stand is on the same footprint as their original main stand that burnt down. As such a precidence has been set historically on that site.

Nice to see some sensible and supportive comments on here.
The complainants remind me of those who buy houses near airports then complain of planes flying overhead (or in the case of certain Spennymoor players past and present - it would be miss hit shots flying over their houses.)

Some people have short memories, it is not to long ago I recollect Spennymoor coming to our assistance to help complete our fixture list.
It good for local football and the area in general to see them & Blyth doing well.

Completely agree. I don't wish anything bad on Spenny (except when they play us). Them along with Blyth have made the last few seasons a lot more interesting and competitive.tezza wrote:Some people have short memories, it is not to long ago I recollect Spennymoor coming to our assistance to help complete our fixture list.

I remember evo stik first division, where the nearest club was Leeds. Not as fun

It's fun to build rivalries with local teams though, all a bit of harmless bantertezza wrote:Some people have short memories, it is not to long ago I recollect Spennymoor coming to our assistance to help complete our fixture list.

Re: Spennymoor ground developments
they should get that awful slope of a pitch sorted first and also their main stand wont look so wonky too
