Assistance request: tommorrow @ Hertitage Park @ 12pm
Its been arranged to move our pitch covers from Heritage Park to Blackwell Meadows tomorrow. A telehandler + operator has been sourced to help move the covers from behind the away end seated stand at HP out into the car park.
There the covers will need to be inspected & refolded ready for transportation to Blackwell Meadows. We have a suitable vehicle to take them to Blackwell Meadows but will need help unloading them and putting them into the storage position at Blackwell as well.
Some volunteers to assist with the job will be needed from 12pm tomorrow at Heritage Park in order for it to go ahead.
Many Thanks.

Thank you to all the volunteers who have offered to help, we should have a decent contingent down at Heritage Park later today.

Just made sure you all take your lead boots otherwise we might not need a van to transport the covers

Sterling work by all concerned today. I know what a task it was having attempted it last year and then realising the manpower and machinery needed. Hopefully the effort today is worth it when we can save a game from frost next.
Well done to all concerned and thank you

Re: Assistance request: tommorrow @ Hertitage Park @ 12pm
I want to say a big thank you to all the volunteers, around 12/13 people, who came along to help today. It wasn't an easy, quick or clean job & some proper graft went into it. Without such a good turnout it would have taken even longer. It is very much appreciated by DFC & DFCSG.
The covers were in decent condition and fingers crossed should help protect Blackwell Meadows from frost when required.

What a carry on getting them from behind the stands behind the goal. On first inspection they didn't look too good as they appeared to be just left in a dirty heap. We must have pulled out about 15 covers and once they had been unheaped and then folded, they seemed in pretty good condition, much better than I was expecting. Sorry I have to take the blame for that final cover, as I urged weary bodies to put in one last big effort and pull it out, it was by far the biggest. Anyway it lead to some comical scenes in the car park, as we tried to unwrap it then fold it again. Anyone that saw the covers at the last ashes match in Perth, well it was even better than that, as the covers threatened to take the first Darlo fan into space for the first time. It was a very long afternoon, but well done to everybody that helped.

Re: Assistance request: tommorrow @ Hertitage Park @ 12pm
A point to note, as previously mentioned most of the covers are large, 3 are huge, so if and they are needed it will take a group of volunteers in conjunction with the grounds man to get the covers on and obviously to take them off. So if the call comes please come and help.
The other part of putting the covers down is some way of securing them to the ground (which at the moment we haven't got) the odd ''Tent'' peg round the outside just wouldn't cut it. We could probably use pallets (blue ones are heaviest and best) probably need about 30, some of the covers (not all) have eyelet's to take a ground spike however we need to remember the drainage ducts under the pitch.
So it needs a bit of thought before we are good to go.
Anyone?

Talking of the drainage, hope it's working properly over the next couple of days as it looks like there's a fair bit of rain on the way! Are the covers just for cold weather or do they help with rain too?poppyfield wrote:A point to note, as previously mentioned most of the covers are large, 3 are huge, so if and they are needed it will take a group of volunteers in conjunction with the grounds man to get the covers on and obviously to take them off. How we could use them sat behind the goal... even if they offered nothing to the capacity, as a temporary fix to sight lines they would be most welcome. I'd assume it'd take an awful lot of volunteers an awfully long time to take them apart and move them and it just isn't practical. Ironic really. Something that'd be enthusiastically used here, was barely touched there.jjljks wrote:anyone bring the temporary seats too?

Re: Assistance request: tommorrow @ Hertitage Park @ 12pm
Ah it's basically been ruled out by the board, i was just musing how useful they would've been... abandoning that is, for me, the strangest decision we've made in the post Singh era, and i don't quite buy into the reasoning, but whatever. It's not gonna happen, and we shouldn't take focus away from the good work of the guys who gave up their time to move the covers. Here's hoping they help over the next couple of monthsdfcdfcdfc wrote:Not a bad shout if we could get it done on the cheapH1987 wrote:How we could use them sat behind the goal... even if they offered nothing to the capacity, as a temporary fix to sight lines they would be most welcome. Not embarrassing at all, in fact intense pride that we have fans who see that they can help the club in whatever way they can. Anyone who did help should be up on the balcony next match taking the plaudits and at least a free pint.Spyman wrote:Embarrassing isn't it - we ought to have an investor to pay for such tasks!D_F_C wrote:Well done guys.
