Alfreton v Darlo - travel news

Post by MKDarlo » Fri Jan 12, 2018 1:15 pm

There is a very bad fire at Nottingham station that has casued the station to be closed since about 0700 Friday morning. It is highly likely the station will be closed tomorrow and this may impact on those of us going to Alfreton by rail.

Trains from London to Nottingham are terminating at East Midlands parkway. The East Midlands trains from Sheffield are diverting to miss Alfreton and Nottingham. Northern are on strike today but thier trains from Leeds will be impacted by any disruption tomorrow.

The trains that serve Alfreton are therefore badly disrupted. Please check details tomorrow via the east Midlands trains website

Presumably people coming from Darlo, won't be affected as they'd come via Derby?

Change at Sheffield/Chesterfield ;-)

The trains that serve Alfreton are disrupted and are not currently running/diverted away from Nottingham. Disruption details here: http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/service_d ... 81344.aspx

BTP advice on travel for tomorrow: http://media.btp.police.uk/r/15048/advi ... r_the_week
BTP:We are advising football fans travelling to and from Nottingham for matches tomorrow not to attempt to use trains to travel.

This is due to the ongoing emergency response to the fire at Nottingham railway station.

The station is unlikely to be open by tomorrow, and if it does open, there will not be a full service operating.

BTP seemingly from that announcement areadvising only football fans not to travel? No mention of other travellers being advised to make alternative plans

Once again football fans treated like second class citizens

Probably more to do with Villa taking thousands to Forest, and County away at Lincoln - both relatively short trips and a piece of piss on the train.

I would think for us it may be a taxi job from Chesterfield if no sensible buses running.

what a blithering idiot!

I could have copied the information for the general public from any of the above links but chose the one with most direct connection to people using this board. That's right, football fans................

There may to be rail replacement bus services tomorrow. The Liverpool - Nottingham - Norwich trains ( which serve Alfreton from Sheffield/Nottingham) have now been cancelled for the rest of today and all the trains will be all over the place if any kind of service runs tomorrow. Should be fun! Hopefully see you there.

....

Really?

BTP have a history of trying to stop football fans travelling on trains.

BTP have openly stated in the past they would rather football fans do not use regular service trains.

However, if you are so blinkered and so myopic that you miss the bigger picture affecting all football fans, then so be it.

Strangely enough the FSF take a very different view to you

FFS. The reason the BTP have issued this advice is blindingly obvious:
NOTTINGHAM STATION CAUGHT FIRE!

There is no guarantee services will run tomorrow let alone run according to the timetables. It isnt a conspiracy against football fans. It is sensible advice asking people not to travel to that particular station unless they absolutely have to as facilities and services will be under pressure.

SURELY that is obvious to anyone with even half a brain.

EDIT - BTW I am fairly certain i know more about how the railway and the BTP operate but feel free to suggest otherwise. I could get all technical and explain in excruciatingly boring detail why that advice has been issued but it isnt worth the bother.

Good news: Nottingham Station is open and trains to Alfreton ( Northern from Leeds & EMT from Sheffield & Chesterfield ) are running normally

Cross Country from Brum/Derby to Nottingham are running normally.

Bad news: Of the two trains an hour from London to Nottingham only one is running through to Nottingham. The other is only running as far as East Midlands Parkway.
