Could Saturday's game be under threat?
I know the covers are going on this afternoon, but there is a forecast of heavy snow, with potential blizzards this evening. It will remain cold on Thursday and Friday, with a maximum of 3 degrees.

It is forecast 4 degrees and raining on Thursday Pete?

Re: Could Saturday's game be under threat?
Must be some doubt, given the night time minima forecast of 0 or -1 until the weekend. It would be a frozen pitch that kills it, not snow or rain. I can certainly see an early morning pitch inspection on Saturday resulting in a postponement.

But the pitch covers will be on?

Yes the pitch covers are going on this afternoon. Amber weather warning issued for Co. Durham for heave snow and possible gale force winds tonight.Vodka_Vic wrote:But the pitch covers will be on?

Heavy snow falling now falling on the Darlo area along with strong winds, could drift the snow.

Yep about 2 or 3 inches. See what happens today/tomorrow but obviously a question mark over the game currently.quakerste wrote:Is there much snow in Darlington

According to BBC weather the maximum temperature between now a kick off is 2 degrees and often down to -2 degrees.
Re: Could Saturday's game be under threat?
Are the club looking at requesting volunteers to go down and clear it?

Re: Could Saturday's game be under threat?
I've tweeted saying I'd help tomorrow before I start my shift at 4pm if needed.
Not heard anything back yet.

Re: Could Saturday's game be under threat?
If they're going to clear the pitch of snow, then they'll need a small army of volunteers, as paths around the ground will need to be cleared.
Re: Could Saturday's game be under threat?
Should it go ahead, at least Chorley have lost their best player, Nick Haughton. Was on a season loan from Fleetwood and scored 13 goals from 25 games from midfield but moneybags Salford have nipped in and signed him for an undisclosed fee. Their budget must be the envy of a fair few League clubs.
Re: Could Saturday's game be under threat?
Just looking at the forecast for tomorrow night it needs leaving until Saturday morning as the snow will protect the pitch from the frost. Downside is we'll need an army of volunteers to clear the pitch ready for kick off.

Re: Could Saturday's game be under threat?
Volunteers asked for for midday tomorrow to clear the stands of snow, and for 8am on Saturday to clear the pitch, with a pitch inspection at 9.30 on Saturday.

That's a lot of snow to clear in 90 minutes.

Re: Could Saturday's game be under threat?
They will probably clear a few different areas so the ref can get a look and then if it looks ok carry on and hopefully the rest will be ok...Darlo_Pete wrote:That's a lot of snow to clear in 90 minutes.
Re: Could Saturday's game be under threat?
From the story on the official site it looks like it's now down to the fans whether the game is on or off. The pitch is clearly playable underneath the layer of snow. If enough people turn up with plastic snow shovels and wheelbarrows from 7.30am the game will be on.
