Weather - weekend onwards
Weather - weekend onwards
Without coming across all Darlo_Pete, the weather forecast for the weekend onwards is looking like being severely cold, with a beast from the east forecast, ice days and snowmageddon a la winter 2010. I'm a bit of a saddo and read the weather forums and I'm not exaggerating in the slightest. Covers won't help this time! Postponements inevitable.

Re: Weather - weekend onwards
Lows forecast of -2 on Friday night, as long as there isn't a fall of snow then there is a decent chance of the game going ahead.
Re: Weather - weekend onwards
Might get away with it this weekend, but next week is quite different matter!
Re: Weather - weekend onwards
Wouldn't be an absolute disaster. An extra week for some of our players e.g. Caton and Portas to get fit, possibly Collins although I don't know how badly he is injured. We may be OK though as it is cloudy and so hopefully the frost won't be too hard. Also, stand will definitely be ready.

Quite right Dan - especially as Tamworth play on an artificial pitch.Darlo_Dan wrote:Might get away with it this weekend, but next week is quite different matter!

Re: Weather - weekend onwards
Might be worth putting the covers down on Friday afternoon but at the moment it looks like it warms up enough on Saturday and should be fine.
It's all a bit early yet though as the forecast will change a little.

Re: Weather - weekend onwards
The long range forecast now has it as getting down to -1 on Friday night, so game shouldn't be under threat if the covers are deployed.

Looks like the really cold weather isn't due to hit us until Sunday, so hopefully we'll escape the Arctic blast heading our way.

Re: Weather - weekend onwards
To cover or not to cover that is the question, depends on which forecast you look at, all say it’s going to freeze Friday night Saturday morning, one forecasting snow early hours Saturday morning, should warm up Saturday mid morning but could come to late if an inspection is called for .
So i think we should er on the side of caution and get them on, it doesn’t take long to get out and put away.

We definitely have to cover the pitch, although it may be around freezing in the town centre, outside of the town centre it will be below freezing.

Re: Weather - weekend onwards
If we can get this match on then there'll be some serious postponements the next couple of weeks for our rivals. Telford have Nuneaton at home next Tuesday then Alfreton away the following Saturday. Next weekend looks particularly grim. Very fortunate that we'll be on Tamworth's 4g pitch.

Re: Weather - weekend onwards
It's forecast to get down to -3 or -4 tonight, so the frost may not get out of the pitch tomorrow. Which could give us problems for Saturday, if areas of the pitch that don't get the sun aren't protected from tonight. The covers won't help if they are put onto already frozen ground.

Just been told a decision will be made tomorrow about the covers.

Re: Weather - weekend onwards
The BBC forecast is underestimating the cold and potential for serious disruption next week. They are trying not to whip up a frenzy. Some of the snow forecasts for next week are staggering. There is a forecasted area of low pressure to move up from the south next Friday producing significant snow. Cumulative amounts next week could be 30cm+
No amount of covers or 4g pitches will make a difference.
Hope I'm wrong though

Re: Weather - weekend onwards
As Poppyfield rightly says, a decision about the covers will be taken tomorrow morning.
I'm compiling a register of fans (and others) who are willing to help with the covers. The idea is that these people will then be contacted, first, rather than having to put out a general appeal every time the covers need to be moved.
If anyone would like to be included on this register, please email me at
tblack.dfcsg@yahoo.com.

Re: Weather - weekend onwards
I wonder if Kidderminster will stay over Friday night like they have done on previous seasons?? Could be costly if called off, but on the plus side no need for such an early pitch inspection and the pitch would be given every opportunity to thaw in time for 3pm...

Been out with the dog this morning over the fields the ground is very hard. I hope the sun has some warmth in it this morning before the covers go on or the game could be in doubt.

Re: Weather - weekend onwards
If there's a hard frost in the ground, then the pitch covers won't help much. Surely they needed to be deployed before the hard frost got into the ground?
