My picks to win the playoffs
Harrogate. By one more goal than Brackley.

Salford;
Leamington 0-4 Salford; A comfortable win for Salford, with two goals in each half.

Harrogate;
Harrogate 5-0 Curzon Ashton; Harrogate despatched lowly Curzon Ashton, with two goals in the first half, three in the second, all five goals scored by Dominic Knowles. A nice way to prepare for the playoffs.

Brackley;
Brackley 2-0 York; Brackley scored twice in the second half to beat York 2-0.

Kidderminster;
Kidderminster 1-2 Bradford; Kidderminster lead 1-0 at half time but goals after 81 and 94 mins gave Bradford the three points.

Stockport;
Stockport 1-1 Darlington; Stockport trailed 0-1 at half time before pulling back a second half equaliser in front of more than 6,000.

Chorley;
Chorley 1-0 Alfreton; Chorley finish the season in 6th place with a second half goal to beat Alfreton 1-0.

Bradford P.A.;
Kidderminster 1-2 Bradford; Bradford made it into the playoffs with a dramatic finish. Trailing 1-0 at half time, Bradford equalised in the 81st min. Six minutes of added on time was announced, in the 94th min Adam Boyes stabbed home the winner at the back post. The winner lifted Bradford over Spennymoor on goal difference into 7th place and the last playoff place.

Spennymoor;
Spennymoor 2-1 Southport; Spennymoor trailed at half time to Southport but scored twice in the second half to win 2-1. Bradford’s injury time winner at Kidderminster knocked Spenny out of the playoffs on goal difference. In the past week at home to lowly Telford (1-2), North Ferriby (1-1) and Southport (2-1), Spenny picked up only 4 points, in their last ten games, all in April they went 2-3-5.

Boston;
Boston 1-0 Telford; Boston won this game 1-0 with a second half goal.

Blyth;
Nuneaton 2-2 Blyth; Blyth finished the season in 10th place above York with only their 2nd draw of the season. They trailed 1-0 at half time, they equalised twice to earn a point.

York;
Brackley 2-0 York; York’s season ends with a 0-2 loss at Brackley and an 11th place finish. The record in April was P6 0-1-1 at home 0-0-4 away, one point from 18 sent them from 4th place downwards. During the same period of time, Bradford went 5-0-1 to erase a 9 points deficit and finish 5 points in front.

Darlington;
Stockport 1-1 Darlington; Darlington finished the season in front of a crowd of over 6,000 with a 1-1 draw. They lead at half time before having to settle for a point. The season ends in 12th place, just three points from being in the top half of the table.

Nuneaton;
Nuneaton 2-2 Blyth; Nuneaton led 1-0 at half time, and 2-1, Blyth came back twice to grab a point.

Telford;
Boston 1-0 Telford; Telford lost by a single 59th min goal at Boston.

Southport;
Spennymoor 2-1 Southport; Southport ended their season going down 1-2 to Spennymoor after having a 1-0 half time lead.

FC Utd of Man;
FCUM 0-2 North Ferriby; FCUM conceded two second half goals to lose 0-2 to bottom place North Ferriby.

Alfreton;
Chorley 1-0 Alfreton; Alfreton lose 0-1 to a 51st min goal at Chorley.

Curzon Ashton;
Harrogate 5-0 Curzon Ashton; After ensuring they were safe from relegation last week, Curzon were hammered by second place Harrogate 5-0.

Leamington;
Leamington 0-4 Salford; Leamington’s season finishes with them in 19th place, with a loss at home 0-4 to champions Salford.

Gainsborough;
Gainsborough 3-0 Tamworth; Gainsborough’s season ends on a high note with a 3-0 win over Tamworth who are also relegated.

Tamworth;
Gainsborough 3-0 Tamworth; Tamworth’s season ends with a 0-3 loss at Gainsborough.

North Ferriby;
FCUM 0-2 North Ferriby; North Ferriby finished the season on a bright note with two second half goals at FCUM to win 2-0.

Winners
Bradford

Losers
Spennymoor, Blyth and York who had bad endings to their season when they looked as though some or all would be in the playoffs.

My apologies for not producing any updates for the midweek games this week, there was some family surgery that took away my focus.

I produced 24 updates starting in early February when the Quakers were pulling away from the bottom three. The third update on Feb 10th had the following table for the bottom half and the first appearance of Tamworth who went

15. Tamworth...... 29.. 6 3 5.. 4 3 ..8 42 50.. -8.. 36 (Feb 10th)
21. Tamworth...... 42.. 7 6 8.. 4 3 14 55 77 -22.. 42 (Apr 28th)
Their form was ... 13.. 1 3 3.. 0 0 ..6 13 27 -14.... 6 (lost 9 out of 13)

............................ Pd .W D L..W D L...F..A...GD..Pts
12. FCUM............. 30.. 9 2 4.. 1 5 .9 45 54.. -9.. 37
13. Alfreton.......... 29.. 6 2 7.. 5 1 .8 47 47... 0.. 36
14. Darlington....... 30.. 6 4 5.. 3 5 .7 41 45.. -4.. 36
15. Tamworth....... 29.. 6 3 5.. 4 3 .8 42 50.. -8.. 36
16. Southport....... 29.. 5 4 5.. 4 4 .7 40 54. -14.. 35
17. Nuneaton........ 28.. 7 3 5.. 2 3 .8 35 44.. -9.. 33
18. Leamington..... 30.. 4 3 8.. 4 5 .6 41 50.. -9.. 32
19. Curzon Ashton 28.. 5 5 4.. 2 5 .7 34 46. -12.. 31
20. Gainsborough. 29.. 7 1 7.. 2 3 .9 32 57. -25.. 31
21. Telford............. 26.. 4 2 7.. 5 1 .7 36 46. -10.. 30
22. North Ferriby... 29.. 0 4 11 1 2 11 14 74. -60... 9

When we had a spell like how Tamworth finished, I'm happy that Tommy Wright had time to get the system right, the players right and get us to a good finish ready for next season.

When I expanded it up the table as there were hopes that we could get to seventh

For next season, I hope I’m only covering the Top 7-9, and we are safely in that group. Thank you to everyone who read these updates, and the comments and feedback I received, some of the excitement for writing it and reading it died down when we thankfully pulled clear of relegation. In the end 47 points or 46 with a goal difference better than -26 was enough to stay up.

Thanks for your analyses and insight over the season. Time to relax with your family unless you can tune into the V9 Academy series and prognosticate about the Quaker lads chances of making the big time! :clap: :wave: :thumbup:

Great work again. I think it helps create a buzz around a promotion or relegation battle to have these fulsome summaries that help the fans see the overall picture in a clear and concise way. Don't know how we would cope with a season of mid table nothingness. That might be beyond any kind of meaningful analysis.

On to next year and a hope that all your calculations and projections are for the upper end of the table. Cheers.

I'm not sure that could happen in this crazy league. One week you can be dicing with relegation, 3 games time you can be looking towards 7th place.

Thanks jjljks, I'm ready for a break 2018/19 will be here soon, I'm hoping for big things next year from Tommy Wright, Alan White and the squad. I won't be able to see the V9 Academy series unless it's posted on youtube, it has to be better than watching the Class of 92!!!

Thanks en_passant, I learn a lot myself from doing the analysis of teams, trends etc. I got quite a bit wrong, some of the teams ups and downs, it became hard to predict outcomes. Tamworth never pulled out of that nosedive, Spenny, Blyth and York struggling, I figured one of them (especially Spenny at the end) would scramble back in. Maybe it was too many games in too short a time, as well as Joe Tait back headers!!!. Telford seemed to come around in the last two months, possibly a surprise team next year. As for us bobbing up and down between 10th and 13th next year, I hope not, I may not be able to write about a directionless season. Hopefully some new faces can add to the quality we have and elevate us into the playoff race.

Darlo_Pete, thanks as always for your feedback, I will let you into a secret, I was asked to write the updates from a few people on here, apparently they had heard Tommy Wright and the players were looking for motivation, in previous years it had been rumoured the club would read my latest update in the dressing room before games, and get annoyed some Yankee bugger was questioning their chances of success, they would then go out for 90 minutes and prove me wrong. Tommy Wright was initially a disbeliever, when he finally weakened in 2018 and agreed to this season's updates, well, the results speak for themselves!!!. I'm on a retainer from him for next year, to repeat the process when he gives me the signal, but due to budget constraints, it will be voluntary unpaid work as always!!!!

And if you believe any of this, you are in need of a break from Darlo football for a few months :D
