Nuneaton's model is simple - have an owner that puts money in so they can spend more than they otherwise could afford. It's the model adopted by many clubs, including Spennymoor.

Spade calling a spade there.

You are saying I am wrong for saying Darlington under Gray as manager failed to put in place the financial controls John Tempest has put in place now.

So if you are saying I am wrong, then by effect you are saying Tempest is wrong

I fail to understand what is controversial in saying those in financial control under Gray should have exercised financial control at that time.

I have no idea what you are on about re named individuals. I have repeatedly credited John Tempes's actions which are what I said should have happened at time when Gray was an employee of the club.

To put it simply financial controllers are responsible for controlling finances. .When finances go wrong, then by definition the financial controls have fsiled

Yes, they 'shoul'd haven't. But there was clearly a huge amount of politics involved and a canvases who were behind Gray and his 'get to the next level at whatever cost or I walk' attitude.

At the time, you had inexperienced people probably being held to ransom by an opinionated and possibly bullying manager who had the fans on his side.

Tempest's job is probably quite a bit easier in that respect at least (not to take anything away from the job he and David Johnstone are doing).

The only person he named he was praising. Don't think you have understood his argument.

So what was the mark then? No truck with Gray, but he does get a lot of grief for spending money we didn't have, yet he couldn't spend it if he wasn't given it. Are you saying the board at the time had no control over his spending?

Well if I am wide of the mark explain how.

Those in financial control whilst Gray was manager, failed to control the finances, hence the financial problems that occurred then.

What part of that is wrong?

John Tempest is now doing exactly what should have been done in the past and managing / controlling finances to avoid future problems. The finances were clearly not properly controlled when Gray was manager

Ghost, you didn't mention the six figure sum Spenny's owner put in. We, on the other hand, have given our club that amount as fans.

And let's not forget (in case Spen does) that the 7 figure investment was before the ground improvement fairies came along last season and quietly did their ground up.

And before the budget fairies came along this season and magicked enough additional funds to have a deep and competitive squad.

Martin grey has now left shildon. Always seemed to me like it was a stop gap. Even some club officials thought that

Darlington have a good record in the FA Cup, (but not as good as ours). In 1911 they reached the last 16, and they did it again in 1958.
In 1968 they reached the quarter-final of the Football League Cup.
And in 1926 they finished 15th in the Second Division; this is their best league performance, (better than ours)!
That was the old club though
Nearly as 2 faced as Spen is Chris. Dickie seems to understand though so ask him. Should be easy enough to find him at home games.

I saw Shildon play at Stockton twice and no sign of Gray in attendance. I wonder what he did exactly?

He is from Stockton but don’t know where he lives. I know someone who lives in Barmpton and she often sees him driving round there.

He’s still got a house over on Skerningham that he’s been trying to sell for two years.
