Bootham Crescent

First visit since 2003.
What a dump it is now. Clearly there's going to be a minimum of maintenance when it's due for the chop. If they weren't moving it would be desperate for an upgrade.
It makes me realise how lucky we were to get the fantastic new stand at Feethams, in it's prime town centre location, and then how unlucky we were to acquire an owner who shut it.

Yep it certainly is a dump, I doubt that they've spent any money on it since 2003. Yes we had a more than decent stand at Feethams, but the rest of it was a dump and we'd have had to spent a lot of money to bring it back up to any acceptable standard.

Almost feels like York are not heeding warnings from the past... Moving to a soulless stadium outside of town... least it won't be ridiculously big I guess.

Glad I went to Bootham one last time, I'm a bit of a romantic when it comes to football grounds, and tha place should have every preservation order under the sun on it, we're losing a lot of heritage knocking down old town centre grounds, as we know only too well.

Its sad to hear such a negative view of Feethams....It was always one of my favourite grounds in the whole of the football league. It had character. The old wooden stand on the west side was the only bit that needed money spending on it.

Feethams had more character and features than most grounds in the Football League. Some of the old photos of Feethams are fantastic. To go from such a ground to a modern souless identikit concrete bowl stadium was such a tragic shame.

Out of town isn't bad as long as there aren't any daft parking restrictions placed on the ground like we had with the arena. A sensible size and good parking / transport links and it should be fine.
Its a crying shame what happened to Feethams. Reynolds wanted to leave it all in place and play reserve/youth team games there but the cricket club put paid to that idea. What we could do with a stand like that now......

It breaks my heart thinking about Feethams - just compare it when we left, even with the work it needed doing, to the situation we now are faced with. Or the years of watching football in a (at best) 90% empty concrete bowl. Feethams with the new stand had everything I want in a lower league stadium - height, tight stands to the pitch, town centre location. Unless that Euromillions winner is a Darlo fan, we will never have anywhere comparable to watch home games in ever again.

I'm sure York fans will face an emotional pull leaving Bootham Crescent, but their new stadium situation is different to the Arena situation in at least 2 key areas I can see - size and ownership.

I remember better days at Bootham Crescent and some decent games with Quakers. I can recall a 4-3 win for us in the old Freight Rover Trophy when Gary McDonald and Paul Ward put on a great show also a Speedie inspired win in the league, but there's a lot more for York fan's; filling the place regularly in their 70's second division days, watching the Denis Smith Viv Busby team in the 80's play some of the best football ever seen in the 4 Division. I've always had a soft spot for them and hope things sort out because they seem to be in a worse state than us off the field. Dave seems to have become a bad Penney for them.
