Good luck to the lad. Didn't work out, but glad he's off our wage bill (in some way, i suspect we're still either paying him something, or we've settled a severance payment).

The last of MG's dead weight isn't he? (Unless i'm missing someone?)

TW's dead weights to sort out now.
"At a meeting held at the Grammar School on Friday last - Mr Phillip Wood M.A., in the chair - it was resolved to form an Association Football Club for Darlington and neighbourhood. The opinions of those present were so unanimous as to the desirability of this step, that a committee was formed to complete the organisation of the club, and Mr Craven, 17, Garden Street, was appointed secretary pro tem." - The Northern Echo, Monday 23rd July 1883

I know Grimsby Quaker for one will be gutted. He wanted nothing more than to see another James Caton cameo. He'll have to live for now with distant memories of the last 30 minutes at Leamington and the first hour v Blyth.

An MG epic fail and not the best decision on DJs watch at £650 per week.

I'm hoping this means that our overall wage structure now fits within the revised budget, taking into account average crowds of 1400, no cup revenue, the current levels of commercial revenue ect. It will give us a far better idea what we can have for next season while perusing a model where the squad is bolstered by 4 or 5 loan signings at anyone time.

Best not to speculate as to the wages Collins, Syers, Styche and Caton were on. As non of us really know. I'm sure it reflects a significant saving though, considering all were signed to be for the first team.

We also missed out on a potential sponsorship from Marigold when he left ;)

I still maintain that his cameo at Leamington kept us up as our win there arrested our slide down the table and he turned the game. This is hard news to take in. Please be understanding re any of my post match comments today as they will be clouded with sadness
On a more analytical note, Caton’s Cameo might also have kickstarted the form of Gillies who finished the season well. Maybe Nelson has done the same with Thommo

………..Or we paid up his contract so have saved nothing? As has been debated endlessly on here, why would Caton not sit out his contact with only 5 months to go, unless he wants to play for someone else this season. I hope we saved some money but have we just paid him what he is owed, less a bit for paying it early? Guess no one knows.
