Dreadful half of football. Holness looks good but faded over the half, great ball to henshall for the goal. Theirs was definitely not a corner, but we defended it horribly, as usual, and had been inviting them to score for about five minutes before.

Awful to report that to a neutral this would look like 2 sides cast adrift. No spirit, organisation or character against simply awful opposition. Whatever happens today or for the rest of the season change has got to come to this club.

Haven't we ballsed it up every time we've played against 10 men this season, or have I imagined that?

Good chance to all-but secure our safety on Wednesday now. Chester have the second worst away record in the league.

There you go I predicted a win and we actually won as well. The performance doesn't matter, the result does. Who got sent off for us?

Great effort for all those who made the longish trip down to the Midlands. Well done Andy.

Personally I am impressed by the people who make the effort to go to a lot of away games, their support does make a difference to the team on the day. To say that it brings nothing to the club financially is the sort of guff that Reynolds used to come out with.

Absolutely spot on, considering the season we have had, the away support has been fantastic and having nearly 200 there today must have given a massive lift to the team

Today's game was very cagey. Reminded me totally of FC Utd away, where there was very little quality between 2 poor sides. At least we ended up on the right side of the score again. There was very few shots at goal by either team, and the standard of the pitch was appalling, with the ball bobbling all over. Both red cards were very harsh, and clearly Holness wasn't match fit. For 25 minutes in the first half we went completely missing and I feared the worst. However, we controlled the first 15 minutes and the whole of the second half. Against any other team we'd have lost, but then today was all about the 3 points.
A word of caution about that 10 point gap though. Next week FC Utd play Nuneaton. A likely 3 points there, then they play us. A poor result in that game and they'll be breathing down our necks. That game is huge. As long as we draw it, we keep them at bay.

Shouldn't be going over the top about a 2-1 over the bottom of the table side and we should have been nowhere near scrambling around just above the bottom 3 at this point in the season. However, I will happily take the win as a huge step towards preserving our National League North status for another season (unless there is a complete capitulation!) and the club may be able to start making tentative plans for the close season in preparation for 19/20?

You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!"

Who's going over the top?? People have said not a great game but we won and that's what matters... Not really going over the top.Image Image

Couldn't agree more. It's 10 points today but things can change quickly in this league. I see both Guiseley and FCUM play midweek a day before us, so decent results for them puts even more pressure on us for the Chester game.

My point is general and that I'm not going over the top about the win. It's not where we should be at this point in the season and scraping a 2-1 against a hapless club like Nuneaton is a pretty low bar to set, but does the job in the current situation...a situation we should have been nowhere near in the first place.

From the commentary, another poor referee who nearly cost us the win. Any chance of appealing against the Holness red card? Thank heavens for Thommo and our away supporters.

Can't appeal a sending off for two yellows.

Holness looks a very good signing, just what we need to let Nicholson and co do their thing you would hope.

As someone said earlier thank God for Thomo, just goes up a gear and changes the game.

Support from a good 200 Darlo fans was brilliant.

Was good for me to see Jackson get on as a sub. When I coached my lads team U11 - U16 we played against him (met his Dad at the game yest) and he ripped us apart playing left wing so will be interesting to see how he gets on at LB.

Onto Chester then Stockport who might be a bit down after yesterdays result in the Trophy and Chorley pulling a little but further away.

Even Darlo cant piss away a 10 point lead, can they?

It’s more like 11 points given the goal difference of 18 in our favour versus FCUM and about a million versus Ashton

FCUM also have a case pending regarding fielding an ineligible player although a win against them in 2 weeks will hopefully see us mathematically safe regardless
