New Signing - Osagi Bascome
New Signing - Osagi Bascome
We might have a new signing by the weekend, just waiting for international clearance. Potentially another player from the USA.

Re: New Signing
Whilst being just as interested as the next man at hearing we are bringing in fresh blood to make sure we survive this season, is it churlish to be a bit wary of how this is being managed?
To explain, a few weeks ago we had a push to get the 500 club extensions made to plug a gap in the finances to get us to the end of the season. The nature of this minimal extension seemed to be a balance between prudent financial management in the present without risking too much long term downside in kicking the shortfall down the road, and never quite balancing the books. I for one appreciated that the club were trying to gradually unwind the reliance on the 500 club and convert its members to year by year paying fans, thus enabling the club's finances to be founded in present activity rather than be in hock to the future.
So after having to ditch several players during the season to get us this point within an acceptable budget constraint, which was still not enough to get us to the end of the season without the 500 club extension, where does the money suddenly come from to sign a second new player? I appreciate that the contracts will be very short term, but even so does it suggest that the stated priority to eventually balance the books has now been sacrificed to maintaining the club in the NLN. This is, of course, something that does impact on the future finances of the club and I can see that spending to ensure this is certainly a change of tact that most of us would agree with. But now that we are within a whisker of maintaining our status do we really need to spend any more cash on bringing in yet another body?

Re: New Signing
Got to agree with En-Passant.
Are we spending the funds on airline tickets to bring players over The Pond? Or have we got a new sponsor in Virgin Atlantic??

Re: New Signing
Maybe Hughes leaving freed up a substantial amount of wages? I guess we may find out at the netcafe on Friday

Let's just wait for an official announcement from the club, cannot think for one minute DJ and our new FD have not looked at this very closely.jjljks wrote:Got to agree with En-Passant.

Re: New Signing
I'm guessing rather a lot of money was invested in Hughes... and I suspect Ainge also.
Was it ever confirmed if Holness is here for next season? I think Kneeshaw only signed until the end of the season, but I could be wrong?

Holness is till end of the season, but I expect him to be here next season.
Kneeshaw is the same, but both parties have the chance to extend the contact.

Re: New Signing
En passant, submit your question to the Netcafé if you wouldn't mind, that's a good one.

The new signing is Osagi Bascome, a Bermudan international.

Re: New Signing - Osagi Bascome
Interesting one - an attacking midfielder where we already have Henshall, Thompson, Kneeshaw, Nicholson and with Holness, Elliott and Wheatley we're well stocked in behind as well.
There must be some intention for these recent signings to stay beyond the end of the season, so perhaps an indication that decisions on others have already been made ahead of the summer?
Or just a scattergun approach to signing whoever is available....

We will be playing at the arena again next season - fact.
Quakerz - if you actually attended games and spoke to people you might actually find our facts, rather than spreading s*** on this board.

Ok, this one is significantly less exotic than Holness really. Young lad, hasn't made it further up the leagues, just did a stint in Spain (i'd guess that's semi pro at that level also). I can't imagine he's on much of a wage, and we can take a look at him with an eye on next season.
The sort of player we should be picking up. Only 20, so time for him to progress. Welcome Osagi

Really is a throwback to the various Hodgie eras (Ville Vaisanen, Gaetano Giallanza anyone?)
Do we do a sweepstake on the next nationality? I'm guessing Angolan.

Wonder if we are going to a 2-7-1 formation?
Waiting for Raj to shaft them!

Re: New Signing - Osagi Bascome
Do all these signings mean that TW has been told he`s the manager for next season ?
Re: New Signing - Osagi Bascome
It's difficult not to draw that conclusion. Maybe we'll know on Friday after the Netcafé.
Re: New Signing - Osagi Bascome
Contracts are only until end of the season so I wouldn't necessarily say that's any indication.darlo reborn wrote:Do all these signings mean that TW has been told he`s the manager for next season ?
Maybe this is a chance for him to show what he can do with these players to attempt to persuade the board he can hit on the right formula at last.

We seem to have a very unbalanced squad of players, overloaded with midfielders but very light on defenders.

Harry, do you not agree that we are thin at the back, if we have an injury to Tez or Ainge we only have Burn as cover, that is my point.I am not being negative but stating the obvious. This signing today could be a brilliant one, time will tell but would have preferred a defender.

Let's not forget that we have Will Smith to come back in and by all accounts the teenage left back did ok when he came on on Saturday.

If he has signed permanently that is a big surprise. So that leaves us even thinner at the back.Lallacab wrote:Vaulks has signed for Shildon todayHarrytheQuaker wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2019 9:42 pmWe have Vaulks and Nico can cover so noQUAKERMAN2 wrote:Harry, do you not agree that we are thin at the back, if we have an injury to Tez or Ainge we only have Burn as cover, that is my point.I am not being negative but stating the obvious. This signing today could be a brilliant one, time will tell but would have preferred a defender.
