Middlesbrough game

Post by dsr » Fri Jul 26, 2019 8:08 am

Shame the forecast looks horrible for Saturday. Likely to put many off, if it rains as predicted. Gloomsters (sorry for the political in word!) might even suggest the game could be off because of a waterlogged pitch.

To be honest a game against Boro U23's for me isn't an attractive fixture. I won't be going, as to have to work instead. If the weather is bad as forecast then I could see the game being under threat.

Just seen the preview write up on the official site which states that the game is additionally being used to make decisions on three players, Scott, Holness, and Bell. After the Northallerton game there was an assumption that Donawa had done enough to get signed but nothing further has been said. There is also Bascome and Tyrell who have yet to be given a firm decision, although I suspect the former is in and the latter is out. Of the three mentioned, I don't think Scott did his chances any harm on Tuesday, whilst Holness wasn't quite up to his normal standard, and Bell was, for the first time, a little disappointing. Hope the game does go ahead and some of these questions can be resolved.

Bascombe is still showing in the squad list on the official site, so maybe we can assume he's been signed but just not announced yet.

He probably doesn’t need to be announced as he was already here - he’s the extra 1 from the number of retained players that people thought was Kneeshaw

I haven't seen or heard anyone suggest that Holness has played anywhere near his best in these trial games. If you were Armstrong, then you'd be wondering what the fuss was about

It will be a tester for the drainage system we paid for but ,as said ,it needed a right good soaking.

As long as someone is there to turn the pump on that drains the system.

No word on decision of today's game as yet, so presumably the drainage is doing its job.

No pressure but one or two might have 90 minutes or so to seal a contract.

Got to mention the pitch, I was really concerned at the state of the pitch for the Motherwell game. The amount of rain that fell during the night and this morning I convinced myself it would be called off.
Well the pitch looked excellent greened up lovely no standing water ball was fizzing about beautifully.

If the Farsley boss was there today - and I suspect he would have been as they played their final pre-season game on Friday night - then I'm sure he won't be wanting to provide us with a snooker table surface after seeing how we knocked it around with pace and purpose. Farsley play a different sort of game.

Really enjoyed the way we played today. If that doesn't get bums on seats then nothing will.Looking like AA has assembled a pretty good squad to me, good going forward and hopefully if we get Josh,. a solid looking defence.Feeling very positive.
