Blyth

Post by H1987 » Wed Aug 14, 2019 8:23 am

Going down this year, me thinks.

Looking at social media, the fans are turning on Clark already.

Squad is completely unprepared to play at this level. Who would have thought bringing in a manager with no knowledge of this level of the game could be a bad idea...

Considering only 2 go down, Blyth and Bradford are certainly making early claims for those relegation spots

I think it is a bit early to write them off, they are all strangers and it is going to take them time to gel.

It wasn't such a bad idea to bring Martin Gray in to manage us, at the time. What did he know about this level after playing in the league for years and his management experience being assistant manager at league clubs.

Grays masterstroke was bringing in Harry Dunn who knew everything there was to know about the lower levels and which players would be good for us.
Gray blended them into a great team as coaching was where he excelled.

Agreed, Loan Star. Harry Dunn had a phenomenal influence on our early years that is either unknown or underestimated by most.

Yes, that and the enormous budget that allowed him to bring in the best talent in the area and discard anyone who didn't quite cut it.

Yes he had a good budget but he still had to convince those players to say no to equal or better pay from the likes of Spennymoor and West to come to a club that was on its arse.

Aye, but there's some questionable 'quality' in that team. How many players did they sign from the northern league again?

Clark isn't playing Robbie Dale either, which is... baffling given their lack of quality. Fans moaning about their preseason schedule only playing lower league sides as well, which won't have helped

Rumour is that Dale may be on his way out of Blyth, not even in the squad today and he's not injured.

Dale on his way out? Would love him at gateshead, hes sure a proven striker at national league north level. Mind if he leaves he will probably sign for whickham who are suddenly rich

The fans are already turning on Lee Clark and that will be cranked up a couple of notches should they lose at Bradford PA on Saturday.

The club seems to be lurching towards a crisis after only 4 games. There are rumours today that he's released 4 players. If Robbie is one of them we'll have a meltdown.

Despite a 10 game preseason Clark seems clueless as to who is his best eleven.

Its too early in the season to call for a managers head especially if they were not there last season but it seems to be rife at the moment. Toon fans want bruce out after 2 games, woodgates under pressure at boro, was even pressure on jack ross at sunderland before Saturdays game apparently. Footballs gone mad

Feel sorry for Spartans fans. Great non league club with good history. I know there have been some random flash points between the fans in the past, but certainly would like to see them at least continue to compete in the NLN. The more North East clubs we can get in the NLN the better.

Got to say I was worried for you when you appointed Clark, he didn't come with a particularly good record anywhere, other than perhaps Huddersfield, but if the rumours are to be believe he had a championship budget there in league 1. Inexperience at this level and basically a full squad to replace on a reduced budget. Half the players seem to have come from the "also ran" pack of northern league clubs, the NLN is a huge step up in quality and fitness from that league. Platten seemed to spend the off season bleating about Armstrong and not focusing on the job at hand, in truth the board could have extended player contracts without a manager in place (I believe our board did with Nicholson and Trotman before Armstrong was appointed), add to that playing Northern League or lower opposition almost exclusively throughout preseason is hardly going to give you a good barometer of where you're at.

Hope they turn it around but I doubt Clark is the man to do it. What is Tom Wade doing nowadays? He certainly put together a good squad of local players in the years before Armstrong came in and fine tuned it to win the Evostik, and then have you challenging in the NLN.

They’d have been better off giving the job to Mr Blyth Robbie Dale alongside an experienced head like Harry Dunn.

Clark was a big name given his ex playing days but it’s telling that no one has touched him with a barge pike and he’s been forced to take very uninspiring jobs since he left Huddersfield. Wouldn’t even make the shortlist here.

I suspect it was a rather cynical attempt to win over some local Newcastle fans with a name they've heard of, in a desperate ploy to boost crowds. Maybe wouldn't have been a terrible idea, if Clark wasn't a terrible manager.

Tom Wade isn't working at the moment and was there on Saturday. I would have Tom back. He built that team that Alan took forward on a tight budget and developed the younger players like Rivers.

The fans are in meltdown on social media regarding the exit of Robbie.

He applied but never made the final shortlist. He also applied for the Gateshead job.
