The reason I think the ref has given it for denying a goalscoring opportunity is because when he goes over to the touchline and explains it to their manager, the manager points downfield towards our goal. Earlier in the game Laing got yellow carded for bringing one of their players down, which he may have thought was denying a goal scoring opportunity.

DOGSO isn't a bad shout in the situation. He is really only 28 yards from goal and there isn't a defender to be seen. It's hard to know whether the Darlo player would be bearing down on goal or not as he is fouled so soon after taking his touch.

I've just watched the full 6 minutes of the decision making and Darlington players ask for DOGSO when you watch it Campbell and Thompson both basically point at the goal to say he was through that's why our players were asking for red they weren't asking for the tackle itself.
