Talking about groundhog Day and teams from our own league don't forget I think we've had a little bit of fa cup history with Altrincham over the years.
Well, we've played them twice in 36 years

Chippenham is the lowest ranked club still standing. They started in the extra preliminary round so that’s 6 wins the same as Liverpool need to win the cup!

Might've meant Chichester, I think?

You mean Chichester, who with Maldon & Tiptree (both level 8) are the lowest ranked clubs left.

Maybe Nantwich lowest ranked northern team? They're a place below Whitby but if it's not regionalised it makes no difference!

It’s not often we get to talk about a cup run so I’ll allow my imagination to run wild. Get a bye tomorrow, 2nd round a lower league team at home then away at Man Utd in the 3rd round and a great financial reward 😁

Admittedly it's just outside Crewe but it's only 22 miles from Wrexham

I'm struggling to understand why Nantwich's relative proximity to Wrexham is an issue. Nantwich has got a train station and is 30 mins from the M6. There must be harder places to get to.

Maybe I'm in the minority here where I don't really mind who we get drawn against, The main thing is that we're actually in the draw for the firs time in 8 years is it? Alun and the guys can all hold their heads high and be exceptionally proud of what they have achieved thus far.

I get the sentiment. But would be a real anti-climax for me personally if we just draw a random conference club. I'd rather go one of two extremes. Either get one of the lowest ranked sides still left (Maldon etc) at home (best chance or progressing). Or get one of the big clubs home or away (Sunderland, Ipswich, Portsmouth, Blackpool). High profile and more likely to get us a spot as one of the TV games and the additional payment that comes with that.

Although from memory when are the FA cup TV games? From last season wasn't the BBC game shown on friday night? Terrible of we're away from home. Not sure about the BT games for the weekend. Evening saturday or lunchtime / 2 o'clock sunday? In that sense while getting on TV would be good. If it's on the Beeb wont exactly be great for the fans.

Lucrative away tie with 6,000 + crowd and TV will set us up with cash for next season and keep AA’s two year plan on track, regardless of the result.
People are starting to get ahead of themselves with 3rd rounds away to Man Utd. We have achieved what we dreamed of, now take the cash and consolidate our position in the league, and possibly have a run to a possible play off place.
Not many ties that will get both of these.

Isn't it always the same with an FA Cup tie?

You either want a winnable tie or a big tie - it used to be away from home to capitalise on the financial return but actually with the potential £80k+ (I think that is what Warrington got in terms of TV against Exeter) TV bonus which is more likely if you are at home and possibly has more longer term benefits in terms of sparking interest locally.

We have banked £36,750 this season from the FA Cup that feels substantial in terms of potential player recruitment, possibly what 2 players which could conceivably be the difference between a top half finish and a play off spot.

is it wrong i would take the bye and the cash?

If not lets have an away game at a club with a decent attendance. We aren't going to be on TV because there are still smaller sides left in the draw so lets get the most cash we can.

Depends entirely on the draw! Sunderland at home for example would be basically guaranteed to be on TV

I am not sure. The story is surely someone like Malden & Tiptree or Natwhich rather than us. They always go with the smallest clubs. Dulwhich Hamlet have a lot of hipster, media hype about them and are cockney based so will be a popular choice.

Not exclusively. Last season in the first round Port Vale (league 2) v Sunderland and Maidenhead (conference) v Portsmouth were on tv.

It would be fantastic if we could get Ipswich town away a dream draw for Alun Armstrong one of his former clubs.we played them at Portman road in the league cup in the mid 1980's but I missed out has I was in a dead end job at the time. Also my favourite schoolboy club back in the days Bobby Robson was manager and they had the likes of Kevin beattie Brian Talbot John earl and Paul mariner.

1936/37 won away to Halifax, Burton and Dartford. Next round went out 3-2 to West Brom…..away.

Oddly enough we were drawn away 3 times in a row in 1890/91 without us winning a game. First drawn away to Darlington West End but the game didn't take place and we went through. We then lost 2-0 at Middlesbrough only to be put through again following a protest that Middlesbrough played a player who had played for someone else. Then came a 6-0 defeat at Middlesbrough Ironopolis and the game was replayed (away) following another Darlo protest and lost that 3-0. A protest was lodged again (frozen ground this time) but the cup "run" was over.
"At a meeting held at the Grammar School on Friday last - Mr Phillip Wood M.A., in the chair - it was resolved to form an Association Football Club for Darlington and neighbourhood. The opinions of those present were so unanimous as to the desirability of this step, that a committee was formed to complete the organisation of the club, and Mr Craven, 17, Garden Street, was appointed secretary pro tem." - The Northern Echo, Monday 23rd July 1883
