Southport;
Blyth 1-4 Southport; A comfortable win for Southport, beginning with a 2nd min goal, and two more in the 37th and 45th min for a 3-0 half time lead. Although Blyth pulled a goal back in the second half, Southport replied in the 59th min to secure a 4-1 away win and move up to third place.

A 9th min goal from Adam Campbell who had a would be second cleared off the line and Stephen Thompson having the woodwork deny him his 100th goal completed an excellent first half but only a 1-0 lead. Despite improved play from York in the second half, and the woodwork this time denying York, it was Darlington who deservedly took home three points in a well played competitive game.

Comments

Darlington are on a nice little run, beating Chester and York in the league and getting a draw at Solihull in the FA Trophy. Is this team coming together to make a push for the playoffs, the last three games have been very encouraging.

Going for the league championship

In the playoff hunt, Gateshead has to be careful that it does not fall too far behind

The inconsistents, everyone has more losses than wins.
Darlington and Altrincham have the best home records, for all teams it is the away records that are holding them back from the playoff hunt. Darlington are seven points behind Spennymoor and Farsley who they need to chase down for a playoff place.

Great to hear you made the game today Ginge, some great games you'll be able to see. Today showed that on our day we are as good as anybody in this league & to be the first team to win at York this season, means we can challenge for a play-off place.

Yes Darlo_Pete, we can compete with anyone in the league.
Everyone contributed to the win, the pitch was slick, stepping on it, there was water under the surface, so part time legs to hold out in the last 20 minutes against full time legs, a great performance. We exposed some vulnerabilities in their central defence, Jameson rescuing them once 35 yards from goal when McNulty could not keep up with Campbell. We need to figure out set pieces, there was some creativity but there is not enough height for tall crosses, so low crosses can be blocked or intercepted. A few scary moments in the second half with balls glancing the crossbar, if wee had been 2-0 or 3-0 in the first half and we had better chances, it would have been an easier time for all

I agree I thought it was probably Campbell's best performance in a Darlo shirt. One thing that I thought was very poor yesterday, was our corners. We seemed to get plenty of corners especially in the first half & yet we seemed unable to get past the first man. Still I'm sure that is something that can be put right in training.
