Guiseley

Post by DarloFaithful » Mon Jan 20, 2020 12:45 pm

Usually struggle with midweek away games due to work, but would love to make it down there tomorrow night if possible. Does anybody know when the supporters coach will be setting off? Or is anybody driving down from anywhere near Barnard Castle?

We've had such a good run recently that it feels as if we're playing with house money at this point. Would be pleased with a draw though, especially considering the injuries in defence. Although the way we swept aside Alfreton on Saturday makes me think we can go there and win.

Cheers

I live between Darlington & Barney & I'm definitely going tomorrow evening. I might be able to pick you up from the Barney area, but I may be taking someone from Stockton & if I do I won't be able to take you. Hopefully I'll know either way later on this evening & I'll let you know. Really looking forward to tomorrow evening, hopefully we'll have a great following. Hopefully Hatfield will get a great reception from the Guiseley fans.

He will probably get the same reception as we give our former money grabbing players

I think he was there for 3 years & was certainly player of the season at least once, so he should get a good reception after giving them 3 years service.

I thought Will Hatfield's interview might just rile the Guiseley fans and it has done. When asked if he had one or two mixed feelings going back to his old club, he said: "I enjoyed my time there but I was ready to move on from there. It's the best thing I have ever done.... come into this club now, a proper club, obviously the fans are unbelievable and yeah I did the right thing leaving."

I don't think he was meaning to belittle his old club but It might've just added a little bit more spice to the night, given the way it had been picked by some of their fans.

I hope we will take 300 to the game or am I being over optimistic?

Driving down after work for this one should be a good game and another win.

444 went last time but it was a glorious bank holiday. I’m guessing 300 tops. I would have gone on the original date but can’t with work etc.

Last seasons game was meaningless for us and I know quite a few going tonight including me. Would not be shocked if we took more like 400.

The Station pub at Guiseley is a good place for a pre-match drink, only a couple of minutes walk from the ground.

Not sure what the best result would be in the Boston v Brackley game tonight. If the results go our way we could be up in 5th place after tonight's games, although on balance a draw in the Boston v Brackley game would probably suit us best.

I don't fancy our chances of catching Brackley so hope they win tonight and keep Boston in our reach. I would say the top 4 will more or less stay as it is so hopefully they can beat the teams around us when they play. If we can pick up the three points tonight it would be absolutely massive.

Equally massive if we keep a clean sheet, that would do nicely

What a result. Lads are clearly confident at the moment and we have an organic squad rotation for defenders the moment one comes back from injury another goes off.

Atkinson on the bench...he must be close

Atky made it off the bench, Reid did another great job as CB stand-in, Campbell stuck another pen away, Hatfield really enjoyed scoring against his old club, everyone else contributed to the win and 350 (est) away fans see us climb up to 6th. Who would have believed this with all the injuries we have had? Great work AA & all the squad

That was a brave battling win in keeping it at 2-1 in the face of another team who make full use of long balls, long throws, corners and free-kicks. It was a real bombardment at times from set-pieces. Reid was excellent again after having to switch to defence and Hatfield and Wheatley stayed strong. Ref seemed to give them everything after awarding us a penalty. We've got some bottle in keeping this run going despite a seemingly never-ending run of injuries. Captain Hatfield particularly seemed to relish that one

According to the radio commentator, Reid is our emergency keeper option.

So he can attack, defend and play in goal.

Very good win tonight. First 20 minutes is probably the poorest we’ve played for along time and it took us 15 minutes before we managed to string more than 2-3 passes together. How we managed to be 1-0 up I’ll never know. Watson had a shocking first 20 minutes and it was his mistake that led to the goal. We gradually got into the game and once we started passing the ball around we were the better side. This was mainly down to Reid going back to centre half as he calmed things down and made intelligent passes forward.

Second half was a bit backs to the wall, but I can only remember Elliott having one shot to save. Fair play to Watson as for all he was bad in the first half, he was excellent in the second.

Atkinson did well in the centre of the three centre half’s and Wheatley and Hadfield battled hard like they always do. Donawa didn’t have his best game, couldn’t seem to get past his man, but he didn’t get much help with Elliotts kicking.

Laing going off with a possible hamstring problem is a worry and it wouldn’t be a big surprise if another defender came in before Saturday.

Also agree with one of the earlier comments, the referee was terrible tonight. Gave them a lot more then he did us, the only saving grace was that if he he thought half the fouls were actually fouls, we could have picked up a few bookings Hadfield in particular.

Excellent team performance tonight. The team played at times some sublime football & Guiseley were chasing shadows. Great to see Hatfield celebrating scoring the winner. Also superb support, with probably over 300 making the trip.

They really pushed on in that first 20 minutes but without creating THAT much.

A few digging out Watson again. Thought he was very good tonight. His only error of the game was the loose clearance which one of the best players in this league (Felix) ran in and tucked away. Apart from that he handled Felix very well indeed. Pleased for the kid.

Everyone else were up to their usual antics. I can only really single out Hatfield... What. A. Player. That. Bloke. Is.

Very good that tonight. We keep plugging away don't we!

Looking at booking holidays, and it got me thinking - have the playoff dates been announced? I still think we are more likely not to be in them than we are to be in them, but we are firmly in the race, so I wouldn't mind keeping the dates free just in case...
