Chester game....
Chester game....
The tough matches just keep on coming. Hopefully a good following there and the lads can rise to the latest challenge despite more injury niggles. Chester are boosted by the signing of winger John Johnston from Altrincham for a "substantial fee." He has a one-in-three goals ratio.

Re: Chester game....
Seems to be a good interest for this game, fully expecting to hear that 350/400 made the trip down.
Come on Darlo, bring the points home

They are fan-owned but have a rich backer pumping money in while saying he doesn't want to take over. We could do with one of them

Looking forward to meeting up with the usual suspects. Following Tranmere on BBC last night someone said Watford's team and bench numbers added up to 688! Oh the luxury of all that money. You travelling then, Andy?

I have a compiled a matchday preview for today’s game on my YouTube channel which includes highlights from the most recent encounter between both sides, how both outfits have got on lately, plus lots more. Re: Chester game....
Another "six pointer" match, just when our squad is stretched to the limit. Hopefully, the lads can find enough to keep a clean sheet although with a makeshift defence, this will be very difficult. Wonder if AA has something up his sleeve to unsettle Chester & please the DAFTS
Re: Chester game....
I am not too sure. Would love a rich backer to build us our own ground, but someone who is constantly pumping in money, we would lose our sustainability and become dependent on this backer. What happens should this backer gets divorced and his missus get half his money, he could die, or just get fed up and stop pumping.
Much prefer our model of 500 contributing to BTB. I know we need more and we need to each contribute more each year but should one of us
slip off the dish or have to stop contributing, at least the club won't go pop.
Re: Chester game....
When you do your match blog Rio you'll probably be happier than you were at Blackwell Meadows due to our foul record at the Deva Stadium.

Re: Chester game....
Was anyone there for the 4-4 a few years ago? I think Greg Blundell made his debut for them? Sodje scored a hat trick, we were 4-2 up with 0.653 seconds to play and managed to stuff it up.
Re: Chester game....
I mentioned this match after Everton v Newcastle mid-week as they did the same as us.
Re: Chester game....
Will be 15 years ago that I’d imagine. Didn’t go to the game but followed the score updates in the days before social media. Not sure what I was more shocked by, Akpo scoring 3 of the capitulation

Re: Chester game....
Yes that is true haha. We put in one of our worst performances of the season at your place so I’m sure we will be fired up today to avoid a repeat.
Re: Chester game....
Lets hope the floodlights don’t go out unless we are losing of course.
Re: Chester game....
Team news from club website:-
Darlington defender Louis Laing, who went off early in the Guiseley game with a hamstring injury, has passed himself fit this afternoon, but midfielder Will Hatfield is ruled out.
David Atkinson replaces Hatfield -- Atkinson's first full start since his recovery from injury-- while Stephen Thompson comes in for Jarrett Rivers.
Darlington: Elliott, Hedley, Watson, Wheatley, Laing, Storey, Thompson, Atkinson, Campbell, Reid, Donawa
Subs: Rivers, Connell, Holness, Bascome, Martin

Disappointing to be missing Hatfield and quite surprised Atkinson comes straight in over Holness who you'd think might be a bit sharper.

Re: Chester game....
Atkinson mistake for the first sounded like, think most people assumed it’d be a game or two early for his start and holness deserved a start.
Always going to be a difficult one with the midweek game though so free hit really.

Re: Chester game....
3-0 now
Re: Chester game....
Take it on the chin. Was always going to be tough having had a tough game midweek. We weren't at our best by the sound of it, but despite the loss we're 7th which is testament to 8 game run before today which took us from mid table to being able to lose a game and still be in the playoff places.
On a positive note we now have a week without a game. Get those carrying knocks through training and refreshed ready for Guiseley next weekend. They've had top scorer Arron Martin sent off today so should be without him for next Saturday's game. Still well in the playoff race and plenty of points to play for, should be an interesting final third of the season.
Re: Chester game....
We looked leggy, tired and below par and missed Hatfield's energy massively. The shame is that they were no great shakes although solid enough and the two set-piece second half goals settled it. We had been right in it until then and threatened a couple of times in the first half. Too many players had an off day to get anything out of the game.
Re: Chester game....
I don't think we can complain or he particularly worried about the result - we've been on a terrific run and eventually were going to have an off day. The main thing is we pick back up next time and don't let one defeat derail what looks like it could be a really exciting second half of the season.

Re: Chester game....
How did Atkinson play? Can’t of been easy for him after such a long time of been out injured.
Re: Chester game....
Only AA knows why he preferred Atkinson to Holness but it didnt work today! Should have brought him off sooner and brought Martin on earlier.
Re: Chester game....
AA himself admits that he tries things and sometimes gets them wrong but I'm sure he'll know and will have thought about it. Like at Spenny, where some fans were saying we should have settled for a point. AA in his post-match interview said that he was agonising over it himself but decided not to.
Re: Chester game....
The players looked lethargic, tired and second-best.
The back 4 didn't play as a unit, the midfield and strikers did not link up and all in all it was a bad day at the office.
Armstrong kept the players out for quite a while after the match and it looked like he was letting them know how poor they were.

Re: Chester game....
Perhaps a match too far for a number of them. A bit unfortunate that we had such a tough game again after Tuesday night. A number were playing with knocks and niggles. By all accounts if a couple recover as expected then apart from the 2 long term injuries we'll only have Lidds out for a couple more weeks in time for Guiseley next week.

Re: Chester game....
We missed Hatfield as no one really replaced him.
Reid was ineffective in the first half, was playing too high up and didn’t make an impact. Second half he was more central and did better.
We let in two soft goals that went straight in without much of a fight.
Other than that we pretty much matched them, but then they were winning so didn’t have to chase it.
In saying that I was impressed by their desire for the ball and the win. Even when 3 up they chased us down for every ball, limiting the time we had.

Re: Chester game....
Would have been nice to take a point home, but on the day, we were never up to it. Missed Hatfield, Liddĺe, Galbraith et al, also a bit too early for Atkinson & Laing to take on a very lively side who seemed up for making the playoffs. Shame that the winning streak came tò an end, but time to regroup & recover. Need to treat every game as crucial if we want to keep in contention for promotion.

Re: Chester game....
Disappointed but thought we played well in patches. Definitely missed Hatfield but thought Wheatley was excellent. Hope he's not out for long. Atkinson will improve and if we'd defended those two goals better, who knows. Probably a step too far for our part time, injury hit squad. Huge support (any idea of numbers) but at 2.40 I wondered where everyone was!
